Ross Barkley joins Chelsea, er, Villa on loan

And this was nothing to do with them realising they could get him cheaper if they let him run his contract down further while he was sponging of our medical facilities. They told him to stay at Everton, get better and then we will get you in January for less. The idiot did it (and probably profited more off it) and became the most hated former Everton player of my life time.

How does that make him an idiot ? Seems like the sensible and logical choice for his career. He’d have been an idiot to focus on pleasing fans of a club he’s leaving rather than pleasing the club he’s about to join.

It’s the kind cut throat decision clubs make all the time with regard to trying to get rid of players under contract ASAP but as soon as a player looks out for number one the same way clubs look out for themselves all the fans are up in arms over it.

If you want to try and defend this horrible snakes actions go for it. All I'm saying is he took the selfish route and in doing so gave the middle finger to the club that he played for for over a decade and supported and also every one of us in the process. If he would've left before the season for £35 mil I would bare no ill feeling towards him, like I don't with Stones and Lukaku.

You make it sound like he was a charity case. He was a paid employee of the club and did his job to the best of his ability throughout his entire time here... what more do you want ? So what if he took the selfish route ? So do 99% of the worlds population when it comes to their career. Morally he’s done nothing wrong, it’s just partisan football fans being irrational nobheads about it, which is to be expected because that’s the nature of football.... but that’s still exactly what it is.

Agree to disagree mate. He's a local lad who grew up with the club, I'd like to think he would've shown more respect for the club with this situation. I see your point but I can't agree with it in this case.

We would've spent his transfer fee on some utter turd player anyway...so did us a favour.

This, same thing happened when stones left.
Everyone wanted him to fail and thought he would be on the bench.

lol at people still calling him a rat because we didn't get an extra 20 million for him which we would have never got anyway because no club was willing to spend £35 million on him.
This is just blatantly untrue. Chelsea were about 20 minutes from paying significantly more to take him in the summer

So why didn't they ? Because they realised they could get him for less if they waited and didn't want to spend the £35 million. If they wanted to spend £35 million on him they would have done so, but they didn't... they waited and signed him for £15m instead. You can't lose £20 million which you never had in the first place.

Because they told his agent that if he spent his recovery period at Everton who would cover all the costs and continue paying his wages in the meantime, he would then command a massive signing on fee when he was fit because Chelsea would have saved £20m on his transfer. And he agreed.

So they never intended on signing him for £35m then, meaning Everton never lost out on £20m.

Of course they did, they made an official £35m bid which was accepted by the club. But Barkley and his agent took their alternative option which cost us a fortune.

You seem to think that there was real genuine desire to sign him for £35m and that they only came up with this alternate plan on the spot at the last minute... seems a little naive to me mate. These are massive clubs with smart people working behind the scenes, seems far more likely to me that Chelsea always intended for it to play out like this. Ultimately neither of us really know exactly what went down but I find your stance a little naive.
