I think you're been a tad harsh. He was never going to make it at Chelsea , sadly he's not the brightest spark is he? Agent pushed that move. I'd rather have him in the team than the Gilf
I disagree mate, but I respect where your'e coming fromBoth absolute passengers. Barkley doesn’t have it in him to take any responsibility and drag a team up a level, he’d wilt at the first boo.

Agree him being a local lad does adhere me to him more than it normally would. Still stand by my opinion based on some of his past performances for us.The local thing gives people a misty-eyed view of him. He’d probably get in our team, but he would not make any significant difference.

That's just our usual partisan fan base who have polar views, where a player is either amazing or totally dross with no middle ground. I just ignore most of it!In some cases, yeah. I don’t think Barkley ever had as many fans desperate for him to fail as Davies has though.
I think he would get in our team, yes. But for me, he just hasn't kicked on in his career. There's still time for him, but I'm not confident he going to truly make it. As in, a top player in a top side. He's just doing ok (as a player) and earning a damn good living! The local lad thing gives people a misty-eyed view of him. To make something of himself in the league then maybe, but when you consider his age (twenty-five) and the little progress he's made in the previous seasons...I think he would get in our team, yes. I've watched him in a few games for Chelsea. Had one or two good games and moments (which you'd expect from a decent player). Otherwise, as someone said "tidy feet", and also safe short passing. Nothing special really.
I don't think he's actually going to make it as a top player in this league. He could still do it (just about - timewise) but unlikely I agree. To make something of himself in the league then maybe, but when you consider his age (twenty-five) and the little progress he's made in the previous seasons...
Well, I have serious doubts that he will show and as such be considered a good player, let alone a top player. Is he a top six player? Arguably, currently I'd say no.
The question regarding whether he would be good enough for our team icurrently s a difficult one, as it's difficult to be entirely objective after all that's happened.
However, if I sensibly ask myself would he really improve us is if he was to return then I'd say again, currently I would say not much - if at all.
He'd currently be in or around it. My point is that I don't think he would make any drastic improvement or impact and if players on form, it would be difficult for him.I don't think he's actually going to make it as a top player in this league. I always liked him and wanted to (and at one stage did) believe he'd be class. But he's disappointed on that score. After what happened with his transfer, I'm not really that bothered how it pans out for him. Topical interest now and again.
I still think he'd get in our team as it stands, but as you allude to, that wouldn't be difficult. And I don't think we'd be any higher than 7th.
You covered it all there mate. He'd currently be in or around it. My point is that I don't think he would make any drastic improvement or impact and if players on form, it would be difficult for him.
When he first came through the ranks in Martinez's first season, Ross showed so much potential and I sincerely believed we had a diamond on our hands.
However, that soon dwindled away and I've put that down to the fact (often mentioned on here) that he doesn't posses a real footballing brain to match his ability.
We can discuss his injury, Martinez's lack of training or focus and other aspects of his life, although in the end he simply didn't make the decisions enough times.
When he should have made a crucial pass, he often had a shot; when a shot was on, he would regularly make a simple, needless pass to a fellow player.
How many times did he needlessly dribble across a defence? There was also too many touches etc. Great ability no doubt, but he didn't use it nearly enough.
I think this is still the problem and the problem that will continue him throughout his career until he finds a team where maybe the shackles can come.
I genuinely don't even know where his best position is. He's not a number ten but I couldn't see him playing in the middle of the park. On the wing? No chance. You covered it all there mate.
And....he doesn't even run at people anymore. Playing to orders no doubt, but its all so neat, safe and tidy.
