Ross Barkley joins Chelsea, er, Villa on loan

We miss him badly unfortunately.
Barkley has been ok for us so far. You can see that there’s real talent there, but he invariably takes too long to make a decision. He’s got a lovely range of passes and a decent shot, but he frequently slows our play down. I think he’s probably playing a generation too late. He’d have been a showstopper in the 80s/90s. I’m still glad we’ve got him at the mo though, given our current circumstances.

I was surprised when Sarri played him as a water carrier in that midfield 3 last season. Didnt think he had the discipline for it but you could see why he trusted him there. Looks like he turned into more of a possession based player (Sarri liked those triangles and one touch passing).

You've rarely played him in that number 10, attacking wide player (as Mount is currently playing), which if given some freedom he'd do more.

To me, he'll always be a great squad player for a top club. Bit like a James Miller type (more flair than him) where you'd be looking to spend £30-40mill to get anywhere near his level to replace.

Clearly a very good player as despite last season's ups and down, a cup final, Europa League cup win, and finishing 3rd where he played fair regularly show that.

He is a bit reminiscent of Gascoigne when he's playing well, does that same sort of arm thing that slow players do when shielding the ball. Sublime talent in a not very athletic body - would have ran the show in a previous era like you say.

When you have a Chelsea fan come on here and is unable to gloat and trying his best to give Cabbage some sort of positive but ultimate tell you he isn't good enough is just another sign on an infinite amount of tell-tale signs.

So no different, at all, from when he played for us.

I agree

Some bad injuries have effected how he plays, he is typical of a player that has adjusted his game. Has lost that turn intial turn of pace. Also he was silly billy in his down time at times. Not a good mix. (Was looking for Lookman thread, but I don't have too).
