Ross Barkley

If he's not ready then don't put him on the bench. Easy as that.
I'd rather have Ross back a game later, than run an increased risk of re-injury by playing him when he isn't 100%.
I think the bench for Lille and getting 20/30minutes is a reasonable target for him, Villa seems like we're rushing him or he is rushing us a bit to get back.

Roberto Martinez says Ross Barkley's return to Everton training has been 'infectious' and the midfielder is 'really close' to first appearance this season .....Daily Mail 16/10/14

Roberto Martinez says Ross Barkley's return to training has been 'infectious' and that the Everton midfielder is close to making his first appearance this season.
The England international was ruled out for eight weeks after suffering knee-ligament damage in August, but the 20-year-old trained with his team-mates on Monday.
Everton manager Martinez cannot tell whether Barkley will play against Aston Villa at Goodison Park on Saturday, but says his reaction to training has been encouraging.
'It's really close. He's had a very good period of work now,' Martinez said.
'He came back on Monday with the group, and he's reacted extremely well. Sometimes you forget what a sensational footballer he is and when you see him at full flow you realise it's a bit infectious around the players.
'He's desperate to play. His work this week has been very, very good.
'It's too early to tell whether he's going to be involved on Saturday but I don't see him being too far away from it.'
Martinez added Seamus Coleman, James McCarthy and Steven Pienaar are recovering well, and checks would be made to see if they can play against Aston Villa or Lille in the Europa League five days later.
'James McCarthy, Seamus Coleman and Steven Pienaar are very close to being available to be travelling with the squad,' added Martinez.
'It's early for the weekend. If it's not the weekend, then I will expect them to be available for the Europa League game.
'John Stones had his surgery on Monday and it was a very successful operation. Now we start to look at counting the days back until he is fully fit again.
'Kevin Mirallas is recovering well but has a little bit of a longer period.'

Let there be light.

Longer than Stones? Christ see ya in Feb Kev

Don't see him starting Saturday, hope he makes an appearance off the bench though.

I'd like to see him start at Lille away personally, give him freedom in a game and he can get his fitness up. Also Europa is a good chance to try the diamond formation and see it works away from the limelight a bit..

Away from the limelight? There'll be 10000+ hardcore Evertonians there in a 50K stadium!

I share everyone's fears about rushing him back but given that it's been 10 weeks (?) which is a little longer than the best case scenario then I don't think that's happening. At the end of the day as fans we just don't know so we have to assume when he plays he's ready and for that reason I hope he plays Saturday.

However it will be a run out. We can't expect him to be back to his best for a good few weeks.

As for Kev. I think the rumours where that it could have been worse and shouldn't be a long one so I agree with Jacob.

Roberto Martínez fears under-21 return for Ross Barkley and England stars could be detrimental
eligible to play in next summer’s European Under-21 Championships PA:Press Association

Roberto Martínez maintains he is open minded about the idea of Ross Barkley playing in next summer’s European Under-21 Championships but the Everton manager warned that selecting full England internationals for the tournament could lead to motivational issues.
Barkley is one of several senior England squad players who will be eligible for the tournament in the Czech Republic along with Raheem Sterling, Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere.
Calls have been growing for England to follow Spain’s example by parachuting senior players into their under-21 squad for the Championships to allow them to gain further tournament experience and though Martínez did not reject the idea out of hand, he did allude to the potential pitfalls.
“We keep saying players need to make tournaments but it’s down to the under-21 manager [Gareth Southgate] to select the players he wants,” the Spaniard said. “Bringing the big names together gives you a better chance of succeeding but the main objective is to get into the seniors so if you’re already there what would be the stimulation and motivation to go into under-21s? It needs to be individual.
“Ross is coming back from injury so hasn’t played much football. If the tournament was now it would be a good chance for him to get some playing time. If it had been at the end of the season, where he had played consistently, he would need a bit of a break. We give too much importance to players being available.”
Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, has reiterated that he believes it would be a bad idea for the likes of Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Chambers to take part in the under-21 finals. The trio are part of England’s senior squad but are eligible to play for Southgate’s side which secured their place in the summer finals this week.
Gareth Southgate suggested that England’s chances would be stronger next June if he could select the likes of the Arsenal youngsters and Barkley. His predecessor, Stuart Pearce made a similar request before for the finals in Israel two years ago but Wenger feels that once players have stepped up a level, it is detrimental for them to play for the under-21 side. In addition, England senior side play the Republic of Ireland in a friendly in June followed by a Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia.
“You know my thinking on that,” Wenger said. “Once a guy has moved up to the full national team, you put him down [again to the Under-21] he is never good. Apart from on the selfish front for us when a guy has played 50 games, it is better a guy has a good rest during the summer. But most of the time, when they move down, they are not completely at their quality.”
Barkley is on the verge of a return to Everton’s first-team squad after missing the opening two months of the Barclays Premier League season as a result of a knee ligament injury sustained in training. The midfielder has an outside chance of featuring against Aston Villa on Saturday.
“Ross is really close,” Martínez confirmed. “He’s had a really good period of work and came back on Monday working with the rest of the group. Sometimes you forget how good a footballer he is, how infectious he is around the place. It is too early to see if he will be involved on Saturday but he’s not too far away.”
