No its not, they were never established players in the Full set up. Just fringe players at best.
They were players playing most weeks in top European leagues for top teams, they probably at the time had the same amount of caps that sterling and barkley do now

Sterling is Englands best player (11 Caps), and Ross (9 caps)when FIT walks into the first team. Thats the point here.

De Gea made his debut this year in June.
Isco barely plays for madrid, and has 4 Spain caps.

Their is a difference with the 2 sets of players mate.

Its exactly what spain done with De Gea, Isco and the likes

Thing is Spain had better players in there senior team. With england the likes of barkley, Sterling, Wiltshire etc are the best we have!

What we gonna do bring Gerrard Lampard and the likes back? Or play mediocre players like Milner, Johnson, Carlton Palmer etc to form the senior team? (Bit harsh inc Milner tbh)

If a way can be found to ensure that all of these players get a decent summer break then I think it is fine, but all of the youngsters mentioned had a short summer break this year because of the World Cup,next year because of the under 21 tournament and the Euros are the following year...Burnout is a real risk as all of these players are vital for their clubs and could play fifty or more club games as well.

I'd ask them if they wanted to go if I was Southgate, if you win that tournament then it breeds a winning mentality, they are going to be the England regulars from now on so if they can win that then what's the problem. If they want to go then they should, build for the future and what have you. Look at the Dutch last year most of their under 21 team were full internationals with about 30-40 caps between them iirc

But what sort of mentallity does it give to the players that get kicked out of the team for these senior players ??

The players that got them to the tournament ???

To me, its like they have realised they have made a mistake.....so are trying to go back in time.

Its too late, so why not start this "lets get them winning together" attitude with the CURRENT U19 and U20 players.

By trying to back track, you are damaging a whole group of the NEXT lot to step up.

Backwards thinking once again from a country desperate to copy, what they think is the Spanish way.

It gives them the mentality that playing for your country at any level is tough and not just a ceremonial thing, that you have to be top class to get into the side and they aren't just giving away caps for free.

Eh ?? Thats the measage to the players that had played in the qualifiers and get the team to the tournament in the first place ???

Not really, sticking with players who played in the games previously is what you do when you're running a team in the Old Boys.

This is international tournament football, you don't do it to make friends you do it to win competitions.

Maybe we should look at ourselves as fans and the media to see why england struggle.

1) Media always have a story on a senior pro right before a world cup. It causes disruption.
2) We have one kid play 3 good games and he is now the next gazza (barkley), shilton (hart), Charlton (rooney). It makes them appear better than they are and also creates a great deal of pressure, clubs then forced to offer bumper deals because agents believe the hype.
3) English players refuse to move abroad, they also prefer to sit on the big four benches and not play 90 minutes every week elsewhere.
4) Football has evolved and England are behind the likes of Spain, Germany & teams like Ajax in Holland.
5) Players are picked based on the team they play for even though they sit on the bench of some of them, Townsend, Milner, Lambert are just three. At least welbeck moved for game time and micah richards is trying something new in fiorentina.
