Ross Barkley

I'm not so sure mate, he loses possession a lot and runs down blind alleys fairly often. I think he's massively overrated, and not because he plays for the inbred freaks. He might come good and prove me wrong, but he's far from England's best player.

I agree with that, but he is absolute key to England.

About 4/5 of that side had played for the 18s already and went up an age group straight after.

So it's exactly the opposite

Exactly, and thats my point.

That is hows its supposed to work....not players going the other way....which is what they trying to do now.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Ffs don't start bashing Ross when he comes back from injury having not played a single game this season and doesn't look amazing.

As you were.

This is the way it works:

Ross comes back, may struggle for a bit, but les Evertonians know a player when they see one and have seen his ability, and react well to this.

Likewise Jagielka has been having a poor time but is given plenty of leeway to recover as his past performances merit that.

The difference with the perceived "scapegpoat" Leon Harvey Osman is that non goldfish Evertonians have witnessed eight or so years of utter mediocrity. There is no personal criticism/hatred of Osman, just a constructive desire for the team to keep improving, and it cannot be scapegoating if the player has continually underperformed.

..he's the one player who quickly transitions defence into attack, that's why he's so important in RMs team model. I'm a big Naismith fan, but Barkley operates in deeper areas which is important when you have 2 central midfielders who rarely cross the half way line.

If everybody was fully fit today I wonder if RM would be tempted to drop Lukaku and play Naismith up top. He's mobile and decent enough in the air to lead the line. I can also see him intelligently forming a link with Barkley which could be 'interesting'.

Yep we really miss him as he's often the "out" ball for the defenders,he's great at picking the ball up in the centre of the park with his back to goal and "buying" a yard then driving us on,which transforms defence into attack so quickly IMHO.

I think with mirralas out and piennar finished for me mcgeady to inconsistent at the moment and Atsu no where near ready to play regularly
I would play ross behind lukaku & Naismith
Play 3 in midfield and push baines and Coleman high up the pitch
Think Naismith movement could really help lukaku

I really hope if RM does bring him back it doesn't backfire like at the derby last year, would rather he waited even a week or so if there is any kind of doubt in his mind as this kid is so very important to us.

Agreed, would love to see him in the line up today, we desperately miss his spark and energy, but he must be fit enough. Not worth the risk if he isn't. I'll bet he's gagging to play though.

Spot on, it's a long season ahead and we really should have enough in us for the likes of Villa at home not to have to rely on rushing Barkley back from a nasty injury to secure a win, the same applies to Coleman with his hamstring problems.
