Ross Barkley

He was also central in the bore away draw against Lille.

So in his 4 starts he has played as #10 twice and LW twice.

Who would you prefer out of position on the wing?

Tbf no one was impressive that night and he did take a nasty cut to the head during the match. I would rather we played atsu tbh why move barkley out of his best position, I would also keep Naismith in the bench as when he plays wide he tends to naturally drift inside getting in the CAM's way

Sigh. Still? He got some minutes against Burnley.

Not Ross. January Winger X?
Seems so, Martinez isn't exactly chatty about injuries but he didn't travel to Sunderland and there were rumours of a knock on Friday. Given he rushed him back with hardly any training for the Man Utd game guess Martinez is as eager for him to play as we are. We really need to get a winger in Jan if we have any money, at least another loan if we don't.

Agree that is a problem with naismith but still think he is a better option at the moment than Atsu.

I think RM is being quietly intelligent here.

Long term we need Ross to be our Gerrard ie the centre of everything and a complete box to box central midfielder.

Playing number 10, especially against teams that just park the bus, isnt improving him at all for me, we have all noticed that he doesnt have the eye for a through ball - or at least hasnt shown it yet.

Instead i think by playing Barkley wide right, wide left, Roberto is bringing some discipline and tactical responsibility to Barkleys game without throwing him in the deep end at centre midfield (especially at the expense of such a good partnership of Barry and McCarthy).

He needs to learn so much more if hes going to be the centre midfielder we all want him to be, and although the benefits may not be evident yet, I think that the more versatile Martinez can make him then the better it will benefit us in the long term.

Remember RM saying last season about ross playing out on the left and it being for his long term learning of different roles.

Just very frustrating watching when all you wanna see is him ripping teams apart from the No.10 role like he did on so many occasions last season.

We're missing mirallas massively, need him back ASAP! Also the quality difference between Atsu and Delefoe is huge and has made us weaker this year when injuries occur.

I think when Bry's fit he should be our left winger and Kev our right. At the moment I'd probably put Naismith out there over any other options, Naismith always gives his all.

big time, when we had gerry to rotate we didn't have to alter our system too much, this coupled with the gaffer trying to find a place for etoo, barkley and naismith has left us struggling for consitency

I'd put Bryan on the right as he and Baines tend to get tangled up both playing fullback.

Hopefully Pienaar comes back soon as well as Kev so we don't have to play Naismith there although agree he is probably the best option at the moment.

He's wasted out wide, on Sunday when he got the ball and ran past a couple of players to put a cross into Lukaku (It was slightly behind him) that's his game, he is so much more dangerous through the middle.

Agreed, when he ran through the middle and played in McGeady and got it back, was a great move.

Possibly should have scored. But that's when defenders are terrified and the opposition can't keep their shape.

That would work too, with Kev on the left, he was playing well there cutting in before his injury!
