Ross Barkley

I think his game goes off when he tries too hard or thinks too much. Against Villa, he just played lots of simple passes and give and goes. His natural energy inspires the team. I wish he'd play like that more consistently.

.....could be a good point about 'thinks too much'. I keep pointing to the goal at Norwich just need another few of those please (although City at home, Newcastle and Swansea away weren't bad).

I think when players are relaxed and not thinking about what they are doing - it just seems to come naturally? Kinda like the Rooney volley against Newcastle when he was arguing with the ref, then volleyed the ball into the top corner. No time to think, just bang.

Great article in the Guardian, recommend the whole thing but this bit made me feel old

The new Gazza? Let’s hope Barkley can just make his own name without the permanent need for comparisons. He has watched a few clips of Gascoigne playing for Everton but it’s a reminder of his age that he does not really know much about Italia 90 and all that. “I was only, like, three when he was playing,” he reminds us.

...I have to say I'm impressed with Sterling, I reckon he's their key player. I know some on here compare him to SWP, but he looks a talent to me and he's got a lot of strength and attitude (for a small lad).

Barkley can be seriously good. I posted a clip of Bobby Charlton earlier in this thread but fear not many saw it because it was lost on the bottom of a page but I think he's a similar type. I want Barkley to produce the final product a bit more, especially the explosive shooing power he (and Charlton) have.
I really rate Sterling and 6 months ago thought he would definitely go on to be world class however I'm not so sure now. If not he will still be and is a brilliant player.

I think Barkley has more potential but they're both still really young and there's a long way before either can be thought of that way.

However there's just something about Barkley. The way he can go past players with his strength etc If and it's a huge if he can be consistent and learn to play with his head up there really is not limit.

His highlight reel from last season is better than most top class players career highlight reel.

That Peter Spencer is a right whopper. He was the one who was telling everyone that Baines to Utd was a done deal and was mocking Everton fans who doubted him.

Just utter laziness from the media. The same crap just gets stirred up everytime there's an international week, because the national media focus on Barkley.

"United and Chelsea are among the other top clubs interested in the 22-year-old goal-scoring midfielder but relationships between the Reds and Everton hierarchy have been soured over the appointment of David Moyes, the 11th hour signing Marouane Fellaina and the ultimately unsuccessful but protracted pursuit of Goodison talisman Leighton Baines."

They can't even get basic facts like his age right, he is 21 in Dec!

So who would sell him for £60 m.?
Seeing how Spurs and the Red [Poor language removed] have managed after selling their stars makes me think no.
