Ross Barkley

Is anyone surprised nobody has bid for Barkley? I recall early days when the 'big teams' were said to be clamouring for him

Not really mate, I think it was only ever paper talk with no foundation to any of it. He's not even had a run of Prem games where he's excelled yet, let alone scored a goal.

I think the media just likes the idea of having 'the next Rooney' and likes to annoint someone with that title whom they can hype, even if there's really no foundation to it.

Ok, I'm seriously confused by this feller's comments now. Here's Moyes saying we need to go ito the transfer market again for a free...because we've loaned out Barkley.

Am I missing something here? That sounds as mad as a box of frogs to me. Erm, tell you what Dave, dont loan Barkley out: job done.

Un-freakin'-believable.

It's obvious Moyes doesn't think that Barkley currently has what it takes to fill a CM role in the PL.

He wants the lad to learn his craft before chucking him in the deep end.

He's talking there about losing bodies from the squad being the impetus to get a free signing in. Barkley even on the bench alows him at least some security when we have people like Heitinga to come in and cover the loss of a first team CMer.

If he's doing this as a tactic to squeeze another player out of the board, fair enough. But that's the only level it logically works on for me.

I agree that the logic of moaning about squad size post loaning out a player appears skewed, but it was always his intention to loan out Barkley, so he obviously doesn't consider him to be ready for CM in the PL yet.

It was obvious on deadline day that he wanted another CM, once the Belgian deal died he's left with the unattached market - I think his mention of Barkley is a red herring tbh, as he had every intention of strengthening CM & no intention of using Barkley there.

Junior must be double checking he exists right about now. He may as well have called him a bit sh*te and been done with it.

Crazy, crazy stuff from Moyes yet again.

Moyes clearly doesn't think that Barkley is good enough for the first team at the moment. What's so difficult to understand about that?

You may disagree with his view but the fact that he holds it is obvious.

That's just it, though: he was saying in advance of the window closing, and with two/three CM targets still a strong possibilty, that Barkley would find it useful going out on loan. But when that window shut and he was empty handed, that should have put a stop to all that thinking of loaning him out. We do have at the moment some cover there, but it's alarming that he's showing so little faith in the player that he's willing to still loan him out when we have a shortage of squad numbers.

Yep. And you have to wonder why he's not also being sent out to get regular game time if Barkley is.

Now that is an odd one, the Barkley one I understand, Moyes just doesn't consider him ready - fair enough he watches the lad every day.

But Moyes himself said in pre-season that Junior was potentially going to give him a selection headache this season, as the lad had done well & was on the verge of breaking into the first team reckoning.
