Ross Barkley

He was right to pick Barkley. The same way he was right to pick Townsend.

As Gary Neville said when they're looking for players to make the team they aren't looking at someone that will come in and then play one or two games and be dropped which requires persevering with them during bad runs of form especially if they're young.

However it's a big period in Barkley's career. There's only so long Roy will stick by him so he really has to start performing for both Everton and England when given the chance.

Looking at that team his best bet could be in centre midfield where there is Carrick, Henderson (who will start), Milner and Delph. Carrick is getting on a bit and I wouldn't like to trust his legs in 18 months which leaves Milner and Delph to compete with. He's probably behind both at the moment but that's something to aim for.

I wonder if this will have an effect on our team.

Id play him in a 3 man midfield tonight you know. They'll be piling on the pressure tonight and we know Ross is at his best running into space and causing trouble. Hopefully his goal on Sunday has given him confidence to push on.

And Zaha isn't guaranteed a start I suppose. Would have thought someone like Kane would have been up there. Depends what qualifies as a dribble really.
The bit that really surprised me were his stats compared to Sterling.

He has had a pretty good season in a team which is decent at fast counterattacks and overall he's played almost double the minutes Ross has. Know there was the whole "tiredgate" but that was a lot shorter time that he was peforming below his potential than Ross.

Yeah but you watch Sterling, he doesn't actually beat a man that often.

Sterling doesn't do anything that often. Think of Ross' highlights: the Norwich goal, Newcastle full length run, City goal, even QPR this season. Ross is in a bad spell but his talent is undeniably there. When has Sterling done anything comparable? Maybe his semi final goal. Thats all i can think of of the top of my head.

He's scored some nice goals and I'm not going to pretend he's crap like. The Norwich one was pretty similar to Barkleys Newcastle goal. I'm just not sure he's beating people as much as making room for crosses or driving up the field unchallenged maybe. Like I say depends what constitutes a dribble.

He's got 7 assists and 6 goals like. Ross has got 2 and 1 I think.

He's far more consistent than Barkley. Not just his goals and other stats but also in what he offers in how the team play as a unit.

I still think Barkley has more potential however the time is fast approaching that he has to start showing it.
