Ross Barkley

How many times has RB started in a 2 in the first-team in cm? He is playing a messed up role with no help in this team with RM's McCarthy and Barry obsession and has had no run of games in out and out cm. He can't do it all alone. He has been caught in two minds a lot this season, probably cos he's surrounded by poor players going forward. Even has no help from Lukaku who is supposed to be one of the best in the world in a few years. He is brilliant, everyone has bad games, and how old is he....he will be worth £50m+ if we ever sell him....and I hope we don't.

......truly top players cross the line and have a real will to influence the game regardless of how well the team are playing or what position they are playing. They have a pride and an attitude that makes them want to grab a game by the scruff of the neck. I want him to be good but I think of Alan Ball when he came as a 21 year old and was truly magnificent. I think of Rooney playing out wide and busing a gut. Barkley doesn't need excuses he needs performances.

Convince us why he should stay? He's had one good game all year.

I am not denying that this season he has been nothing like the Ross of last season, but neither have most of the squad. I think he sometimes tries too hard and that may be a contributory factor in him making some poor decisions, but I remain sure that Ross is a genuine talent, a diamond in the rough if you like, who needs to be nurtured.

I've said it many times on this forum, he needs a personal mentor to get inside his head and clarify things for him, and the club could do worse than ask Colin Harvey to take the lad under his wing and teach him the mental side of the game.

I genuinely feel that Ross is worth more to Everton than just a quick cheque to the bank account now, he should be one of the young players we build a dynasty around.

I think the problem is mate he's not trying hard enough. Certainly off the ball he's not. Hopefully him along with the other 20 odd under performing nuggets show a vast improvement next season.

It comes across as managerial instructions to me.

I think your right mate because the worrying thing is Barkley has mentioned a few times that Martinez wants him to affect the game top end, don't worry about misplaced passes etc but I think it goes a long way further than that such as "don't chase down because others are there to do it for you". McGeady has said similar in the past. So what happens then is we have a front line who don't work hard from the front and invites pressure, pressure we have failed to cope with. Martinez needs to give Barkley tactical discipline because he's severely lacking.
