Ross Barkley

All I've heard of Barkley is he is a good trainer and a down to earth kid who works hard.

He didn't have a great year last year, but that was after a World Cup, an injury the day before the start of the season, then coming back to into a team playing poor. He looked like he was trying too hard, trying to do too much, his form dipped, then people got on his back and then it got worse.

It not an easy position he's playing, a fast paced league where he's closed down very quickly because teams know he's a threat. Usually the best players in this position are older and more experienced. I think he should still be played in that position as he could be great there, more experience to make better decisions and learn not to do everything himself. Yesterday again showed how effective he can be.
The brain and speed of thought is something that you dont really pick up, you either have it or not, with experience his decision making will get better even without the smarts for it, but its obvious he wont be a number 10, deeper is where he'll end up and should end up

Barkley is one of the reasons our play is so pedestrian. Gets the ball, does a step over, a drop of the shoulder, and then looks to play the pass he should have 3 seconds earlier.

Barry, McCarthy and Cleverly all lack urgency in posession too.
I mentioned after the Sunderland game at the back end of last season when Barkley got a lot of stick
People saying he was dwelling on the ball to long

I watched the game again, and basically when he started to drop deep to get the ball he had Barry and McCarthy within 5 yards of him
Osman was also coming deep off the left

Lukaku had his back to goal wanting it to feet also

Only Lennon was trying to make runs behind the Sunderland defence who had come to park the bus

We need some real experienced quality attacking players IE a winger and number 10
To help our young players
Playing alongside the likes of Naismith Mcgeady and Kone is not going to help them or the team

And IMO Osman and pienaar are finished

You just have to look at sterling he went from playing with Suarez sturidge and an inform Gerard
To a struggling Gerard abd the likes of lambert & markovic

He had an average season was getting played in the different possitions getting slagged by the fans
Doesn't that sound familiar

Look at the Ox yesterday comes on and is surrounded by class players and it makes it easier for youngsters to settle in and take the pressure off

....last summer he was linked with all the big boys but this time around not a squeak. Wondered if the goal yesterday might just ignite a bit of interest.
was only a goal, no ones going to suddenly put down tens of millions because of it

This, move them on.

Needs to be more aware of what's around him , caught in possession too many times.

Desperately want him to unlock his talent consistently..... then obviously he will be sold - It is the Everton way:cool:

Hard work can take you so far, talent can take you so far, it is when you have talent and hard work together you get something special.

In my book a talent and a work ethic are both required.

definitely. even the so called lazy players like yakubu, berba, ferdinand etc have put so much work in that makes the incredible things they do/did look so easy.

my point was that you can only graft so much but if you don't have the innate ability you won't get anywhere.

leon osman could get on the most sophisticated PEDs programme, have the best strength coaches, best nutrionist and work his arse off in the gym, but a 15 year old Lukaku would still be stronger than him

i think Barkley has definitely suffered from the pressure put on him and the added attention he gets off the opposition. it didnt help that everyone around him was playing so poor.

give him time, he has all the tools to be one of the very best in the world

If it clicks upstairs for Ross he'll actually be a frightening player. Even more so if we buy a playmaker to take the pressure off him. He could turn into the sort of player who will win you the game and pull you out of tough situations time after time all by himself. Sincerely hope he does, and that we're patient enough with him.
