That's it, he needs to be used in the deeper role but there is absolutely no chance of that happening.

Barry was abysmal last year and still retained his place. This time it's even worse because Cleverely will probably be the one to step in if Barry is injured/suspended.

Usual position just off the striker.

Retained the ball okay a few times, gave it away on others. It was pretty much routine Barkley for over the past 12 months.

With respect, when he was looking far better in 13/14 we didn't lose him. He is a blue, and he loves Everton. The club and the manager had faith in him last season when it wasn't clicking for him. I believe he would want to repay that debt when it comes good.

Martinez needs to persist with him and get him going properly if we're going to do anything this season. Dross like Barry and Naismith will get us nowhere.

I think a genuine playmaker in the side would relieve some of the pressure on Ross to make things happen and allow him to play his natural game
