Ross Barkley

Sheffield's fans are already having a dig at Ross on the forum, saying that he could be on a "must play deal" as he's been playing so badly.

A bit rich, considering he's scored 3 games in a row. at least one person sees sence (see below... http://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/in...-are-barkley-and-bothroyd-on-must-play-deals/)

Barkley has dug us out of too many holes and he has no reason not to be in the side. But we cant rely heavily on an 18 year old and a lad who played in Ireland last season to be consistent. We need an experienced leader in there.

He played pretty well in the first half from what I saw. One of the few in their team who actually looked capable of controlling the ball and making a pass. Played a lovely defence splitting pass at one stage that the winger should have done better with.

I don't know how he played in the second but I'm guessing ****e judging by the Wednesday fans reactions?

He barely touched the ball for about 20 mins before being subbed off. As has been said before, he looks great on the ball, but he doesn't seem to know what to do when he hasn't. He wasn't marking anyone or putting pressure on the ball, he just seemed to be jogging around in space when Boro were dominating.

I watched most of the game tonight and felt sorry for Barkley, playing with some very average players.
So many of the players in the Sheff. Wednesday team took the wrong option on so many occassions, they couldn't seem to see
the correct pass and insisted on trying something difficult and ended up giving the ball away.Barkley did make himself available but didn't get the pass and the game seemed to just pass him by.I do think the defensive side of his game seems to be improving.
That said, the fact that he couldn't impose himself on the game or demand the ball from his teammates shows his lack of maturity at the moment.I think he will continue to benefit from playing regular football .

Very true.

He seems to do the difficult things well and the easier bits (the Neville stuff) are his weaknesses. It's a shame because he's got great awareness on the ball, his range of passing is superb and he rarely seems to give the ball away, he would slot into our side very well if only we could trust him to do the defensive work he would need to.

First half he was good, always looking for the ball and when with it looking to create.

Second half, was quiet but Boro looked a very good side and kept possession well while getting out wide so Barkley was taken out of the game from that aspect.

First time I have seen a full game while he has been at Sheff Wed but very promising that he is learning and getting games.

The fact that Ross is having to tell the others with hand motions where they should be passing the ball next and the fact more often than not there ignoring him and playing stupid balls loosing possession or a hoof says it all to me!

I thought he did pretty much all he could in that game. Boro were a far better side and Wednesday have poor players round him. I also thought his work rate seems to be improving.

All in all the loan is doing him good and will continue to do so up to a certain point. Don't want him there after Xmas IMO.

If he's playing with average players then he should stand out and sparkle, not be dragged down to their level.....

He needs the ball to be able to stand out! When SWFC get put under pressure they resort to long aimless balls which just come straight back at them. Basic errors like the CB passing to a middlesborough player leading to their second goal when they were well in the game at 1-1.

Remember that Ross has played 3 games in 6 days, alot to ask from an 18 year old.
