Ross Barkley

In amongst all the clamouring for him to be given a starting role for us, is no one at all concerned that he couldn't get guaranteed playing time with LEEDS? Surely if he was as good as some people seem convinced he is, he'd walk into their team week in week out?

That's the biggest downside to Rooney having come through our academy. Every youngster who comes through now, people seem determined to convince themselves that they're "the next one",

I still don't understand why we broke up his development at Sheff Wed for a 'just incase' There was Lundstrum and Junior that could have sat on the bench for him. He played wide vs Stoke when he came on anyway and I don't think we where short on wingers at the time where we?

I believe there where a number of clubs after him before he went to Leeds. Moyes or whoever decided it was best for him to go there though despite probably being aware of what type of player they needed.

No worries anyway mate, he had a ball at Leeds over the past month, he even said so himself, so all is well and good.

Cant honestly tell if the last line is sarky or not tbh mate. I dunno really, on the Sheff Wednesday move, that seemed to be the most positive move for him and i have said I'm not sure the Leeds move was the right one. The intention though for me, is the right one for him and if you weren't being sarky, I agree that he seems to have enjoyed it, which in itself is important.

He's not yet, tbf. But he has got a lot of potential. He needs to be played, but Moyes knows he has a mistake in him and he wont take the risk that what he offers can cancel out the errors. Which is ridiculous given the amount of game time he gives to older players who stink the place out.

So true

It's a shame when we have sent him out on loan, circumstances have worked against us, such as our central midfield injuries and Warnock not wanting to risk a youngster in their push for promotion.

I also have no doubt that he would have made more appearances this season if we were 3-0 up and coasting with 20 mins to go, but since we are awful at killing teams off this hasn't happened. Hopefully we'll see a few appearances between now and the end of the season.

we have no chance of
top 4, lets give him and a few others a few games...duffy,stones etc,was talking to ross a few weeks ago and he knows hes at a turning point in his football life, really hope he listens to the people who he needs too.

I don't think he is going to come in and cement a first choice place. I do think we need some of our players to think that's a possibility. Neville and Heits have done their level best to be dropped yet injuries and our small squad mean they still get played. I think that situation (even in the back of the mind) makes some of other players slow down a little because they know their playing time is safe. A youngster full of energy and hope and promise might get them to fight for a place (even if their place isn't really in danger).

If we had a real bench with real options and real competition for first choice positions we wouldn't even be having this debate. It's only because our best non-first 11 options are Naismith and Hitz that we need the playing time of a 19 year old to be the source of such fierce controversy.

I am actually against playing him on the basis of "is he better all-around than the alternatives?"

However I am actually for playing him on the basis of "nobody in our midfield is worried about losing their spot and maybe the threat of Barkley from being handed a start or two might get some people to pick up the pace."

Thats still not true is it? Its getting less and less likely as the weeks go by but it would be stupid to chuck in the towel now for the sake of game time for some of our younger players.

listen mate, id love 4th....but we have no chance .
Would you not say it would be a little rash to completely forget about league standing for the sake of youth development though, given that there are still quite a few games to go?
Given that we still have to play Spurs as well, i'm not writing of fourth just yet. We aren't in the driving seat, as we should be, but we aren't out of it.

Each league place = £1m

The league matters until the day when you can't go up or down in the table.

Plenty of points to be played for. We can certainly do it. I dont think we will to be honest but there is zero reason why we cant.
