Ross Barkley

This, in a nutshell.

It's been 3 years since the lad has made his debut. Not only has he been starved of first team action with Everton. He's been sent out on pointless one to two month loan deals when they should have been for a minimum of 6 months.

I feel sorry for people who are trying to consistently defend Moyes and his staff over the development of Barkley over the last 3 years.

No it hasn't. It has been 18 months.

Stop being accurate! It ruins a good narative arc and people cant then come up with witty analogies with which to bash Moyes with.

It's also worth pointing out that Wilshere made his debut for Arsenal aged 16, but was then a fringe player in European ties until 2010. Despite Wenger being infamous for giving youth a chance he didn't trust Wilshere until he was nearly 19 years old.

But apparently Moyes is ruining Barkley by following a very similar course. The only difference being that Wilshere went on loan to Bolton (made 14 appearances, just like Ross did for Wednesday) and Barkley went on loan to a Championship team.

still, he's stagnated (at best) it should have been recognised earlier by the coaches at our club and he should have been given the opportunity to develop elsewhere for a longer period of time. It's disappointing to say the least.

I don't see how you can say he's stagnated mate. He's clearly improving, he improved from when he went on loan to Wednesday and when his loan ended, the fans said so.

Anyway, to post something relevant, i think it is always going to be an issue people disagree on. Personally, when i have watched him, he has the potential to be at worst a very good PL player. However, there are gaping holes in his play and he needs educating fully in order to improve. I'm not sure Leeds is the right club but the loan is probably the right thing for him and first team action will further his education.
People dont seem to be able to exercise any patience with regards to him for whatever reason but I'd say he isnt ready for complete responsibility in the PL just yet.

It would really help the case 'for' Barkley if he could go somewhere on loan and be Messi-like outstanding for a few months.

Send him back to Sheff Wed, they'll have him.

So if he's improved he'll surely have a part to play for our first team before the end of the season?

Brendan?

The club haven't gave him the opportunity to carry on improving though. 1 - 2 month loans are not enough
The first recall was due to an injury crisis so it wasnt ideal. The second was because Moyes wanted him playing regularly and Warnock wasnt guaranteeing it. Not sure what else he is supposed to do?

Made his debut in 2008/09 pre season, made 8 appearances.
2009/10 made 21 appearances for Arsenal and Bolton.
2010/11 made 49 appearances for Arsenal.
2011/12 missed the season due to injury.
2012/12 22 appearances this far.

Barkely made his debut in 2011 making 9 appearances.
2012/13 made 18 appearances for us/Wednesday/Leeds.

Don't know if they're subs or starts or how long he played for which can make a difference.

Looks like Wilshire was used sparingly to get experience then after 2 years of that played regularly, but whether he was put in, pulled out, sent out on loan, pulled back, sent out on loan and pulled back again i don't know.

Now of course Barkley hasn't been ruined yet but i really can't see how anyone can say he's been handled well.
