Ross Barkley

It was his performances at the age 17 that showed he has massive potential. Far better than Rodwell was at 17. He has better potential than Rodwell ever did. Anyone with half a footballing brain can see he can go all the way if he makes the right choices and is guided. Hes still only 19.

Rodwell had tremendous potential at 17. I'd barely seen a youngster come in and look so completely composed, and athletic. His problem is he just hasnt improved as a player since. Barkley needs a long period on loan where he can get some consistency. There is nothing to suggest he should be playing for a top 6 Prem team or even close to it just yet.

Rodwell was no where near where Ross was at, at 17. Barkley always showed for the ball and wanted it constantly and was comfortable with it. No comparison at all. Rodwell probably got more opportunities because our squad was thinner a couple of years ago. Barkleys showed more potential to be a top international than Rodwell imo.

This gif infuriates me. Her face makes me want to punch it.

Pleased for the lad, must be very frustrating for the lad not knowing whether he is coming or going.

I don't think he's commented much to be honest. He might be happy getting experience and be well treated and looked after by Everton when he returns. Maybe too much expectation on the fans part. He probably reads GOT and thinks wtf? lol

You might be right. I'm just thinking in terms of him being a young lad, and him wanting to play games. Going on loan to Leeds, not getting games, and then being sent back to Everton - effectively told by Warnock that he's not good enough to start in a Championship side - must have been a knock to his confidence. It would be a fairly normal reaction, most people would be a bit put out by it, especially if there's a section of people all the time making out you're the next Rooney.

Or maybe going to SHW, scoring some goals. Walking into the Leeds starting line up, and only missing games he's been instructed by his parent club he's not allowed to play in, before missing a game where the manager at Leeds knows he's going back. Maybe that might have just boosted his confidence.... maybe :)

Or maybe a young lad who scores goals, creates them, has good vision and a decent pass, but because he's not quite the finished article should just hang up his boots now and start binging on MacyDee's and spire into the depths of depression (y)

All sarcasm aside, I'm amazed at the weird sense of perception some people have. Hell he might not make it to the lofty heights that some of us want him to hit, but there's nothing there at the moment that suggests otherwise. The only thing that's a certainty is that he's a young lad, who missed some key time in his football development through injury, and is being loaned out because the manager has a thread bare squad and has a philosophy of playing it safe and trusting experience over youth.

I still think he'll come good, and if the doom and gloom merchants had their way Baines would have been sold a long time ago......

Yeah I know what you mean. It must be hard being a footballer when you're not quite sure of your own ability and trying to find your way, when you're so close to top level footy.

Saying that though, watching the Saturday morning Champions League catchup, I learnt Piqué played for United and couldn't cut it. Went to Barcelona and the rest is all trophy cabinets...

True. I always say that great players turn great, they don't arrive great. The 'arrive as a finished product' mentality is that of Chelsea and City.

At the moment, if our players aren't playing 100% superb like robots, lots of posters want them out and call them every name under the sun. I wonder if people have only just started watching football..

Great players grow. I'd be happy if Ross played average in our first team for a few years, then started to develop into something special in his mid twenties. But imagine some of our fan base if he doesn't play like Messi. People are having meltdowns if he misplaces a pass...

Really don't know how this will work out...

He has my 100% support though. Good luck Ross lad.
