Ross Barkley

I personally feel we have more balance when Fellaini plays deeper like the other night. I think Barkley s' game is much more suited to playing in the hole, as is osmans for me. Whether or not Ross is ready to become our main playmaker just yet i don't know but so far I like what I see.

When he settled his nerves against Arsenal you could see the quality the boy has, given a run in the side to shake off them nerves and I think he'll be awesome. It's pretty clear that all he needs to do is tighten up on his decision making and when to do the fancy stuff and when to keep it simple.

Meh. I'd rather play Fellaini in his proper position. I have too many bad memories of Osman/Neville so as to appreciate the value of a world class holding midfielder.

Same with Osman actually, he's an attacking midfielder by trade. We put too many square pegs in round holes. Whenever we play Fellaini up front we play the long ball as soon as we run out of ideas.

I just don't see the harm in keeping things tight with Fellaini deep today and having Barkley in the hole as the X-factor to catch Sunderland out. They're the home side, they'll be prone to movement and skill on the counter, and with Barkley, Mirallas and Pienaar running at them they'll cack themselves.

Only if you think of situations squarely or roundly mate. I disagree wholly, i wouldnt touch Mofros role in the team - i think hes made a bit of a joke out of what many consider his "natural" positition. Tbh i dont want our most creatively effective player and top goal scorer playing deeply against relegation candidates.

I think everyone is vastly overstating how much we improved by dropping fellaini back, like.

We drew 0-0 without really creating anything at all and gave up several excellent chances which arsenal missed. they put away the two chances when fellaini passes it straight it at them and this conversation is very different.

Totally agree, but feel we are in the minority.

But if we had an actual proper striker and this this conversation is very different.

Fellaini and Jagielka have been stallions tonight. And Coleman, who cost us about £60,000. Mind bogglingly good business.

Sensational tracking back from Fellaini again, he has been outstanding thus far.

Marouane Fellaini showed his defensive capabilities vs. Arsenal, completing 6/7 attempted tackles. (via @StatsZone)

Fellaini is really making life difficult for Arsenal... Breaking their rhythm in midfield

We could draw the remaining 5 and be unbeaten, it's about winning now. Poorer opposition will plan to stifle, I'm enjoying that we don't know what the starting 11 will be. We've a small squad so Barkley will play a part (starting or bench),it'd be daft not to use him.

Eye AIDS then mate.

Its funny tho, cos when people gave you stats about Neville, you dismissed them, but now, they appear to fit an agenda, they are the best thing EVER.

Stats are useless, accept it and move on.

Im not saying Fellaini isnt totally amazing at DM, he is, but I just feel that we create more with him up top.

No, I agree, stats are generally useless, that was just part of a tweet so attached the image, but it's no coincidence that pretty much everyone who watched the game thought he was outstanding in that role - and if stats are indicative of that, then they'll be used.

Plus, a tackle or interception are a lot easier to analyse than a pass, which is subject to interpretation. For example, I'd disregard that clearance stat, as it could easily be an attempt at a long range pass.

I agree Fellaini is an option up top.

The team we played vs Arsenal happens to be the one I prefer and have been calling for for about six months.

But it was an incredibly uncreative and defensive team.

Defo our currently best team, but as you say, it lacked a spark, but we have all Season, we need an Arteta 09, Moutinho 13.

Really is hard to judge because we were away to one of the most fluid attacking sides in the league. It would have been a tactical choice to stand off at certain points of the game.

I thought in we created a few good opportunities in the first half, and ran out of steam due to the defensive workrate in the second half. I'd like to see the same side put out there today against lesser opposition as I believe we'll work 5-10 yards higher up the pitch all round and impose our will a lot more, whilst keeping the door shut at the back.

If we play Fellaini and Anichebe up front, I fear that our counter attack will repeatedly be route one because we won't have enough pace to support a controlled attack. I'd like to see Anichebe as the target man to play off, Fellaini as the anchor, which allows Barkley, Mirallas and Pienaar to attack at will, knowing that Gibson will hold the middle ground behind them and mop up.
