Frustrating this.

We need investors badly to ensure he can be a Gerrard like figure.

Gerrard would not have stayed at Liverpool had they not have bought top class players along the way.

He should also have £40m buy out clause written in his contract before the vulchers start pecking at our pockets for him

Erm....why would we put a buy out clause in at all? Surely just encourages a bid, and means we cant turn one down if the valuation is met

Having a buy out clause does NOT mean a player cannot be sold for less than that clause, only that the offer has to be accepted if the valuation is met

Nobody will bid £40m for him at present anyway. Plus that figure would be excellent business for us should we come to sell him. I genuinely believe he 'll be worth that if not more in the future. Considering Bale is off for £90m+

But why would we want any sort of clause in there? Just leave the lad be and reject all offers until they get to silly money

All the top players in the world have astronomical but out clauses. It's basically a hands off...

If we leave the lad open to offers this board will likely sell him for next to nothing. £25m or so. We had our pants pulled down over Rooney because of our mediocre finances. That lad was worth £40m+ even at that time of inflation

There is absolutely no reason to have a buy out clause unless the player demands to have one in their contract like Fellaini.

Yes but this situation does not change whether we give him a buy out clause or not....other clubs can still offer what they want for him....and the board may still sell for around 25m

Having a buy out clause in a contract shows that you would entertain the idea of selling the player, we should just be saying 'hes not for sale'

Yes I'm pretty sure it is that's why they have ridiculous buy out clauses same with Portugal.

In Spain the buy out clause is only valid for teams within Spain. Anyone outside has no bearing on the buy out clause. It happened with aguero. He had a buyout clause at Athletico of £39m. Chelsea met that valuation and it was rejected.

umm gerrard stayed at liverpool because people threatened to kill him. Had nothing to do with the owners splashing money, they've done it throughout the premier league. he wanted to go to chelsea because they're a much better team and he would have had a much better career - i'm sure he doesn't regret it :s

the buy out clause is actually a a contract release fee that the player can pay if they want to be released from their contract. most clubs just use it as a release fee tho
