Ross Barkley

I watched that game and it was a nice little showcase of the different skills he's got. The outside in pass round the corner from Gerrard, the Rooney shuffle, even a David Silva fake shot in there. I'd agree he'd be far better off further up the pitch where he can put those things to good use, then it also wouldn't matter so much if he gave the ball away for no reason from time to time.

BrOwNz will he be as good as Juninho?

This means nothing where Ross is concerned. Each players physiological development is different. Only the medical staff at FF know whether Ross is ready to play more football at the highest level.

Also, having the ability to play the game doesn't mean you have the physique, so the old "if your good enough, your old enough" shouts are worthless too.

When people talk about this league being the toughest they mean sprints undertaken, total distance covered, aerial challenges attempted and average HR amongst other things, not how heavy the tackles are or how many yard dogs are lurking at the back for Stoke.

For me he should play more because at times we desperately needed his creativity and burning him out won't mean jack for Everton as Bill will have him out the door once a big bid comes in.

But, if Ross was to start getting Rodwell type injuries because of overuse then I doubt his family, advisers would be singing Evertons praises and telling him to stick around either.

Brennan91, cheers for posting my video.

Barkley was by far the best player on the pitch and apart from a few sloppy passes he played really well. I really hope he can play more often this season, he needs to brush up on the few mistakes he did but I think that was mainly towards the end of the game when his concentration went down. He must of had a high Pass completion percentage for the game if I was to guess I'd say he would have had a percentage of around 80%.

Well his average pass success percentage for us in his 6 appearances last season (2 starts, 4 as sub-) was 82.1%. 78/95 passes successful. So good guess!

I think the video serves to show the reason Moyes stopped playing him: he gives the ball away a lot. Of course, this is a consequence of his play - ambitious, creative, etc., as well as the fact he's on the ball more than anyone else - but a conservative manager isn't going to take that risk.

Still, his movement, footwork and ability to switch direction are a joy. He's still a little raw, and not ready-made like Rooney seemed to be, but you can't help but get very excited. There were so many games Sept-Dec last season where we were crying out for his kind of ability, especially in the last 15-20 mins.

Hoping to see this a lot next season...

Gibson - Fellaini
Naismith - Barkley - Pienaar
Jelavic

this looks really promising. With Fellaini's ability to dominate the midfield and his solid partnership with Gibson (who I imagine will be rotated with Rodwell), Pienaar's link up with Baines, Naismith's understanding with Jelavic and Jela's deadly eye for goal, all that along with Barkley's creativity, we can potentially do very well this season if we pick up where we left off.

I imagine though that Osman will start ahead of Barkley in that line up, Barkley and Rodwell probably replacing Osman and Gibson towards the end of games (or if we're fighting from behind, probably Cahill & Anichebe will come on).

Put it all together with Howard, Heitinga & Jags/Distin, we've got a boss team.
I'm sure we can look past Hibbert if we're actually playing well...

The most important question is, what happened to his fade haircut? Disappointed!

But this lad seems to have everything in his locker. He will be a star player. We've just got to hope that we can kick on and start challenging regularly for the top 4 to keep hold of these players coming through

This...

Michael Owen recently admitted that the immense amount of football he played from the age of 17 at the highest level was to blame for his burnout and injury problems that have haunted the latter years of his career.

Although, if people are that adamant he won't be playing for us in a few years time anyway, then we'd only be burning him out for someone else anyway.

Big time. It's why I'm not concerned about Rodwells injuries yet.

His body is adjusting to playing at a high level consistently week in week out, for club and country. Massive difference between playing in the youth team or reserves.

It only gets worrying if its happening when he hits 25.

The same can be said for Barkley. But I do think there is an element of his rawness and inexperience that's stopping him from being unleashed.

Moyes is over cautious to allow a player like him to just be allowed to go out and be himself right now. Rodwell is different as he looks like a player that does exactly as he's told to the letter and never losses possession, which is why he slots straight in.

Barkley will just want to go balls out. Will probably need discipline before he gets a long run
