Ross Barkley

Think with Cahill leaving he will definitely feature more in the cup games, unsure how many he will play in the League though. I think anywhere between 15 - 30 games for Ross next season would be great for his development.

I'm looking forward to how Ross does this season. He looked good when he was playing for us at the start of last season and now he has a year more experience in him. I expect him to take part in a lot more games next season, even if it's just 10/15 minutes at the end of a game.

This thread makes me miss Matt Damon

Me too, is he perma-banned?

I think the one thing to say if you have the ball that much you are bound to give a few stray balls away.

I disagree that there alot of side way balls- any time there is an option of going forward he does. A real positive looking player which is based on confidence in himself and that the team has in him.

Does my box in when people criticise players for playing "sideways" passes.

You pass to a player available. If there's not one forward you dont pass it. Or you go for the hollywood pass then get chastised for either hoofing/losing the ball/not passing it to anyone.

Same with "He gives the ball away a lot" as a criticism being used as an excuse for why a young player isn't ready for the first team.

When certain first team players give the ball away repeatedly.

5 times in 200 minutes for an attack minded player. Not bad for a guy who apparently gives it away 'all the time'. In comparison Cahill lost the ball every 55 minutes, Barkley every 48. But Cahill practically started every game when fit.

HE LOSES THE BALL ALL THE TIME LADS

In all fairness, I was speaking specifically about the match that micknick posted highlights for. There are quite a few instances in a U19 match where he is giving the ball away a lot and was supposedly dominating.

Wasn't speaking generally in that comment.

The good thing about what Barkley did wrong in that video is that it can be ironed out relatively easily. In an EPL game those kind of errors are seriously rare, let alone two happening in the space of minutes, though. He just needs to be talked through matches by the old pros at first. He's got all the skill and more, but still he'd be a possible liability if played atm. We saw exactly that against Blackburn and this video shows he still has a bit to go on that front, which is frustrating, because you want a player with his talent in your XI from the off.

I'dd have reservations about starting him against United. Sub appearances at first is the way to go with the lad.

To be honest i wasn't talking about just Neville, of course all players give the ball away sometimes but i really don't think Barkley gives it away more than several of our older players who are guaranteed starters.

If he's doing so when playing easy 5 yard passes in front of our own box then sure, that needs to be stopped. But if he's giving it away trying to make things happen creativly then **** happens and its part of the game.

Its like people who complained at Drenthe losing the ball because he got tackled trying to take someone on when if he got past them we would of had a very promosing attack on the go.

Still, it depends on how cautious you are. Or your manager is.

I didn't even see your comment mate, was just referring to Moyes' comments about his defensive game etc etc :P
