Ross Barkley

To be honest i wasn't talking about just Neville, of course all players give the ball away sometimes but i really don't think Barkley gives it away more than several of our older players who are guaranteed starters.

If he's doing so when playing easy 5 yard passes in front of our own box then sure, that needs to be stopped. But if he's giving it away trying to make things happen creativly then **** happens and its part of the game.

Its like people who complained at Drenthe losing the ball because he got tackled trying to take someone on when if he got past them we would of had a very promosing attack on the go.

Still, it depends on how cautious you are. Or your manager is.

If you watched the whole video that Mick posted, you'll see it was more of those short passes that ended up at the feet of the Greeks then taking people on that I'm concerned about. There were quite a few occasions where poor passes ended with losing position.

Most of the times he took a player on, he was able to beat his man (or 3 in one circumstance see: 2:45 in that video) or get fouled. It is mostly the passes where he lost in.

Once again, this is only referencing the Greece match he played for the U19's, not every game he has ever played.

I didn't even see your comment mate, was just referring to Moyes' comments about his defensive game etc etc :P

Cheers. If you watched that video, he had a few good tackles//pressed at the right time to take the ball.

Seems the 8 months Stubbs lesson has helped the lad a bit. As much as it makes us fume we never saw him.

I was more or less saying the same thing. That stat is quite a useless one imho cause it doesnt reallty take into account attacking mentality, touches, etc etc

And Neville barely touches the ball, or when he does he passes it sideways. He's got the attacking initiative of a wet sock.

Wet socks stick to their man and cover him like its the last thing he's got. You ever take off a wet sock that easily? Not sure thats the best description of Nev.

However, as for attacking initiative, agree 100%

To be honest i haven't watched the video and can't be bothered to, but my comments about people saying he gives it away too much are based on people saying that ever since he came on the scene not just specifically to that video.

Ah, alright.

I was one of the few who mentioned it today, thats just why I assumed you were talking bout my comments.

Barkley certainly looks poised on the ball and seems to be full of confidence. A little rough around the edges right now, but will no doubt be a great player. Hope to see him making regular substitute appearances//starting the cup matches and the odd game every once in awhile.

As for the video. Give 2:45 a look anyways. Great skill by him

Adapting and improving their game is all good and such, but if they don't have the base ability to play against the players its a negative impact on the team and on them. Potential is just that, potential.

Not saying that youth players shouldn't get a go every once in a while, but they train with top class players everyday, that certainly shall affect there development. Also keep in mind players play in internationals, youth games, reserve games or out on loan. There are ways for them to develop outside the first team that will get them closer to a level where they are able to play for the first team.

****ging Moyes off for not playing youth players who don't have the ability to play isn't exactly fair.

You're defending a manager who played Saha and Cahill for months when they weren't scoring or adding anything to the teams play instead of other players. He played Rodwell on the right wing for ages, when he's useless there. He's stuck with Anichebe when it's been obvious for years that he's not good enough but if you want to assume he's always right, fair play, just I won't.

I'm not saying Moyes is wrong with Barkley but you shouldn't assume he's right in not playing him either.

Youth games, reserve games, training etc ........ they help but they'll never develop a player in the same way competitive, top level football will.

theres no need to defend our manager the man is a genius keeping us a competitive top 8 team for ten seasons and have 100% percent he bring barkley along to be a fine fine player!!!

I think the one thing to say if you have the ball that much you are bound to give a few stray balls away.

I disagree that there alot of side way balls- any time there is an option of going forward he does. A real positive looking player which is based on confidence in himself and that the team has in him.

Watching it for the first time, to me it looks like a mixture of a few sloppy passes and being 2 steps ahead of the players around him.

There's plenty in that video where he's playing it into space and either the player didnt expect it or didnt see the run. There's a lot of his team mates that are flatfooted on return passes, give and goes etc

I'm gonna right out on a limb here....

I reckon Ross Barkley will get into the full England squad this season.

There. Bookmark this, take a screenshot I don't care. It's happening.
