Ross Barkley

The media hype is in full swing now. It's getting a bit ridiculous already, all these comparisons and all the papers swooning over him. Don't get me wrong, I love him, but I can't help but think all of this is a little premature and ultimately unhelpful. England are so desperate for a half-decent midfielder that they jizz their pants at someone like Ross before he's even had half a season in the prem

Barkley still has huge respect for Moyes though, obviously Martinez gave him the chance, but just because Moyes is at United doesn't mean he 100% couldn't be convinced to join them.

However, I do think he'll stay. He's going to be an Everton legend, but I have a feeling that we have to capitalise on our chance this season and get top 4 - if we do that then Martinez has proved what we can achieve straight away and we can push on.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says the club are working hard behind the scenes to sort out a new contract for highly-rated youngster Ross Barkley.

And experienced centre-back Sylvain Distin is also likely to be rewarded for his consistently good performances with a short-term extension.

The 36-year-old Distin is entering the final six months of his contract while Barkley signed a four-and-a-half-year deal in December 2011 but is likely to be offered a new contract containing improved terms.

"You can imagine we are always working behind the scenes to try to reward youngsters who do well at the club, and Ross is clearly that," Martinez said.

"There is nothing to announce but, even when you don't speak about issues, we work hard to make sure that the youngsters get rewarded and Ross clearly deserves that.

"Sylvain has been a terrific performer this season and we couldn't be happier with his role at the club.

"All these issues are vital for us and we are going to look after them straight after this Christmas period.

"At this moment all that matters is to get everyone focused on being ready to help the team and Sylvain clearly has been an example of doing that."

Sounds positive

Keep telling my mates this, why would he want to play for Moyes again?

“I knew when I heard Martinez was coming in I’d get my chance this season,” he says. “I’d seen the way he was with Callum McManaman and James McCarthy at Wigan, that he gives young players their chance.

“I knew I was the type of player to suit him because he’s a really tactical manager who likes to build up the play. So I felt confident this could be the season I’d break through.”

Good to see him speaking his mind. He's 100% right too.

Cause Moyes was his manager when he recovered from injury and broke through into the first team, giving him his debut and appearances in games against the likes of Man U and Chelsea and promised him more game time this season?

More than likely not but professional footballers might not see things the way us fans do.

This is true, people forget what he did for Ross at his lowest point, paid for a holiday for him and helped him through a very serious injury, Ross seems a level headed lad, I doubt at any point he felt like he deserved to be playing every week, its a credit to him that hes so level headed.

OK LAD , HE HASNT BEEN IN THE TEAM 5 MINS AND BEAUTS LIKE YOU R SELLING OFF FFS

LOL

Im not saying we should sell him, Im never a fan of selling anybody, but its not up to Ross or me or you, its up to that horrible cnut we have in our boardroom.

If Chelsea offered us 50m in the Summer I wouldnt sell him, do you think bill would?
