Ross Barkley

I would give him a huge contract, throw 15% yearly increases on for him.

£50k a week, 5 years. So by year 2 (22 year old) £57k...etc

Agree with this, only he is worth 100k pw.
This is the sticking point with negotiations for me.

Barkley is the hottest property in English football. Rooney is on 300k pw and his stock is fading.
Ross's agent will be looking for a mega deal. If he signs a 5 year contract we will have to make him the highest paid player at the club.
Even then it will still be tricky to sort. He will want to stay and play for Everton but we have to competitive in the disgusting, money is everything, football business.

:drunk:

he hasn't done anything yet to warrant a contract like that. Calm down the hyperbole until he's the finished article, which is a long way off yet.

Fully agree, but the media hype around him will see the likes of City and Chelsea offer it. This is what is totally wrong with the modern game.

He will get to 100k a week in year 4/5 if we gave him £60k nowm with 15% increases.

Year 1 £ 60,000
Year 2 £ 69,000
Year 3 £ 79,350
Year 4 £ 91,253
Year 5 £ 104,940

Bit naive.

Not naive in the slightest, it was a bit tongue in cheek. I'm not wet enough behind the ears to think if money comes knocking there's a chance they will be off. It's not a definite though, you have to have some faith left.

To be honest I don't even think he's worth £50k per week at this point. He was more than anonymous in a fair number of games. Don't know what he's on now but start with £10k more per week with the escalator clause.

I think he has two years left on his contract. To me ,it is something which is becoming urgent.
I would dearly hope a new contract would be signed before they board the plane for Rio.

Best laugh is Lineker is spouting he will be as good as Gascoine -a nice complement yet clubs like chelsi and the other lot who were nearly champions only offering 38 million for RB - are they taking the P?????

How long does he have left on his contract?

I'd sign him now before he has a screamer in the world cup and everyone wants him.

He'll be here for a few seasons yet, he'll get a good long term contract after the world cup as a show of ambition from the club. This will all sound a bit like I'm wearing blue tinted specs but he really has no reason to leave right now other than money, even though people will go on that money's the primary motivator for footballers I don't really think that's in Barkley's plans for now. He has all a 20 year old Evertonian could need: he's on a good wedge, he's the rising star of his boyhood club, he's in a team that is playing in Europe next season with as good a shout as any at playing champions league football season after next, he's playing football with a bunch of good lads who he's mates with and he's working under a young and exciting manager who'll let him realise his full potential and not stifled like Rooney was in being shoehorned into a role.

if the board wanted him to stay no matter what a new deal would of been done before the WC imo, they know one world class goal and the big money bids will come in and it will be "ross wanted to go"

Not necessarily, I'm sure the board wants Barkley no matter what.

If Barkley had a good agent he'd hold back on contract negotiations untill after the world cup.
