Bill doesn't want him to go, but we can't match some of the ridiculous wages on offer, nor guarantee CL football. If we can get maybe £30M in two instalments of £15M a year, that's a great return on a home grown talent and vindication of the board's Finch Farm investment.
Your confident statement would seem to imply that after only his break-through season, Ross Barkley has itchy feet and hankers after a move involving more money and guaranteed Champions League football. "A great return on a home-grown talent" isn't one of my criteria.... I want one of the most exciting emerging talents in World Football of recent years to stay with us, where he belongs - and for as long as possible. I don't personally regard Finch Farm as a Hesketh Bank tomato hothouse to nurture and produce star players for other clubs and certainly not to vindicate any investment from the club's board. My main wish at the moment for Ross is that he avoids injury over in Brazil, has a great World Cup and comes back to have a great future with us.
