Ross Barkley

I do the Club season has finished and it's a World Cup, so yes mate I care about England, thanks.

Fair enough pal, each to their own. I love watching the World Cup but I just can't get excited about Englad the same way I do about Everton.

There's a difference between playing down expectations and being blatantly wrong. Hodgson's comments were definitely the latter.

However, as people have pointed out; who cares about England? It's all about Everton!

Depends - he was wrong about Jones and Wilshere, although you can see why he'd play up poor performances. He wasn't really wrong about Barkley, though. He does lose the ball a lot and he needs to improve his decision making. If Hodgson had simply said he's a big talent but there are still areas he need to work on I don't think anyone could argue. His defensiveness over media focusing on individuals meant his comments omitted praise and came across as critical, but that's more about the moment than his actual opinion.

Roy for me is the second worse manager England has ever had. Has literally done nothing apart from being a mid to lower leauge table manager got his shot at the big time at Liverpool and proved he couldn't handle it. Then some how got the England job. He is the most underwhelming manager to ever be appointed and you can tell the country feels the same way. By now we should be England mad! With flags, t shirts and people's cars looking like they've crashed through the first aisle of the asda. But there's nothing, no one care because we all know we are going to get knocked out in the group stages. He will play the same old crap of lampard, Gerrard and Wilshere even though we all know that they can't play together. Rooney will play even though he isn't worth a sausage at this level.

The young new talent with be thrown on with 10 minutes to go when we are 2-0 down. With the weight of the world on there shoulder try to hard and mess up and they will get the blame and the media hate campaign. Where Roy will probably get another 4 year deal.

You know what we had the English players to put out a really exciting side. That could gain valuable exsperiance that would benefit in the next competition. Instead it's going to be the same damm thing.
I would says Capello was far worse.

That's your prerogative mate just getting a bit bored of the England bashing.

Yeah mate totally understand. For what it's worth I actually think England could suprise a few people and do quite well. I don't see the climate favouring Brazil, Argentina etc to the extent some would have us believe. Most of the players are based in Europe and may have acclimatised.

Back on Ross, if he gets a decent amount of minutes he would be a massive player in the competition and that's something everyone would enjoy watching!

Capello was well better yeah he took all the old gaurd but who did he really have to take apart from jags and Baines? And they both would of just been back up anyway.

Heart hadn't broke through as the outstanding keeper he is now.

We walked the qualification stage but balled it up in the world cup in a group we should of won but capello was stuck with a squad who were to old and just not good enough to be at that world cup I agree but he was unfortunate to be stuck with no young talent to bring through like Roy has and he will still play some player who should of been phased out in the last WC.

Look at how attacking our squad is and you know Roy is going to play defensively and just bottle it.

Hodgson isn't stupid. He knows what the media is like over here when it comes to England and a World Cup year. Walcott, Rooney, Lennon amongst others have all felt the wrath of media expectation which has been a massive barrier for them.

However, what he said was a bit silly. He could have gave the lad some praise (His marvellous assist on the second goal, his positive and attacking intent) rather than blasting his decision making.

This is the thing with Foreign coaches (IMHO), they are there to do a pre defined job. Be it qualify, make the finals, or win the WC, that's all they want to focus on. Development is not a part of their agenda.

The Socceroos are a prime example. A string of good, foreign coaches got us to successive WC's for the first time since '74, but we had an extraordinary good side (by Oz standards). We now have an Aussie coach who isn't looking to make an impression at this WC, he's looking to develop a side for the next one. He's gone for youth & Tim Cahill is one of the few players from the 2006 campaign left in the side.

Yeah that's true but all the young talent that Roy has took this year wasn't there 4 years ago and most of the players that had the good grace to let go as they realised they where too old Have either retired internationally or all together aren't in the squad obviously but the ones who didn't have the good grace to admit there time was up 2-4 years ago are still in the damm squad when they shouldn't be.

In 4 year when we (hopefully) have a proper intelligent footballing manager and the old boys will be gone that's the world cup I will be exsited about but while that buffoon is at the helm there really is nothing to be exsited about.

I'm sorry but I totally disagree , at the last world cup England had Lampard, Terry , Cole and Rooney coming off possibly their best ever seasons , you also had the likes of Gerrard , Barry and Joe Cole in their prime.

Capello's time at England was shameful , much worse than anything Hodgson has done

....I think Barkley had an 'almost' game last night. I've seen so many 'almost' situations with him where 90% of what he does is right, then it doesn't quite happen. Then I see those moments when it all falls into place and like everybody else can see he's so special. The goals at Norwich, Newcastle and against City are the proof. His decision making does need to improve but it will and we'll see more consistency and an increase in those very special moments.

Think thats pretty much it. He will get there and it was his first taste of a full international but he needs to be in these situations to learn from them.
