Ross Barkley

The phrase "if hes good enough he's old enough" was used many years ago about a certain Alan Ball and we all know how "good" he was, and there's no doubt in my mind that Ross is good enough! From a purely selfish (Evertonian) point of view though in many ways I'd rather see his footballing education continue from the bench for this tournament and him be fully fit and raring to go once Everton's season starts again in August! He really doesnt need the hype and expectation of the whole of the media and country being laid at his door because they'll be the first to blame him if it all goes pear shaped!
Oh and Lampard, Wiltshire and Milner were all really poor last night, yet worryingly seemed to not attract any of the negative comments that Ross has??

Hodgson's intent is clear ...no pwima donnas in this set up etc...no bigging up individuals. However, hes applying skewed logic in then praising players who seriously under-performed a prime example being Wilshere who spent more time on his behind when he wasn't making sideways five feet passes. I dont think it will affect Ross though to be honest.

Moyes used to always talk Ross down as well

It's like so many managers are afraid of him getting a big head. Is that in his character? Do they feel they need to hold him back from believing the hype?

Martinez is seemingly the only manager who has been willing to just unleash him

Two managers from the "old school" of management though appear to have shackled him. Very strange
In bold yes so much so he played the useless P Neville instead and Ross had splinters on his bum - Frank Lampard was useless last night, no comments on him Just like when Wayne Rooney hit the scene with us, at least we have no English manager like Sven saying Rooney needed to move to a bigger club to improve! - RB showed a bit of brilliance, but he still looks the raw great player he is now - He will only get better!
It is a worry if he shines too much in that average England side the hype and the vultures will circle before August!

He's probably just trying to give some players a confidence boost. They look like they need it.

If he talks up Barkley too much then the press will just build him up so they can knock him down further down the line.

I don't want to over hype the lad. If he's in the starting XI then it should be on merit and form. I just think he brings that something special with him that none of our other midfielders have.

It would be a worry losing the ball so regularly against teams that dominate possession especially in the heat. On the same token though when tiredeness sets in a player who can conjure something out of nothing is a valuable weapon. If that means Ross coming off the bench to change games then so be it.

He's only just completed his first full season in the Prem, He's in no hurry to be Englands saviour just yet.

England will never be a force again for the following reasons:

Media/"INGERLIIINDDD" fans overhyping the team, and slating them to high heaven after one bad touch/pass

The fact that we don't go with the method of whoever is playing the best deserves their place, instead we insist on keeping the sky teams happy by including players that aren't in form/doing the business.

We have a hierarchy of players that we must not upset, it used to be Beckham and Terry, now Gerrard/Lampard etc.

The big names are constantly protected and the others left out to dry, see last night, Wilshire and Smalling were unbelievably bad, Wilshire's passing was spot on but countless times he hit the deck needlessly or was simply shoved off the ball, now i don't want Woy to slate them, but an example should've been made of them by dragging them off early. Instead Woy praises them and says negative things about a young lad, a young lad who got an assist and could've possibly got more.

Personally i'd play

Hart
Johnson Jags Cahill Baines

Gerrard Henderson

Ox Barkley Sterling

Sturridge.

With Rooney the threat to come off the bench, but i think we all know it'll be rooney playing and welbeck.

I dunno. I was most impressed by Ox, myself. May be that I know Ross can be better than he was, even if he was one of the best on the pitch.

I agree, for once it could be that England have a genuine threat and real future world class stars. Add in a few others like Sterling, Stones, Sturridge, Shaw and Walcott and they have a nucleus of a very good attacking team for the next 10 years.

I take your point. He did though have a go at the press similarly for concentrating their questions on Rooney last week. The press will always create a hero then demonise him so Hodgson has another thing coming if that's his reasoning behind the ploy.
