Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley had a pass completion rate of 100% from his 17 passes.

Actually felt he didn't take as many risks with the ball as he needed to in the circumstances - can't really blame him after the manager was whinging at him for giving the ball away after the last friendly.

Rooney taking the ball off of him whilst he was doing one of his unstoppable runs, then putting the shot wide summed it all up for me.

Personally I'd play Rooney and Sturridge up front with Barkley behind and a midfield 3.

Think Barkley thought he was gonna get the return ball and Rooney just lashed at it with his left foot. I remember thinking "Rooney, you arrogant, spoilt sod"

Think Ross gave him a look too.

That's the impression I got too. It was like the criticism from Hodgson was playing on his mind. In the warm up games he picked it up and looked to run with it almost every time, against Italy he played it much more simple and popped it off to the nearest England shirt on a fair few occasions.

If Rooney plays he needs to play either as a 10 or 9. Think it's a bit unfair sticking him out wide and expecting the best out of him. Problem with Rooney (for England) is that there's arguably better options at the moment in
Barkley and Sturridge and maybe even sterling (although I'm not convinced he's a no.10).

I really hope Gerrard calls it a day after the WC. Funny how names and reputation get you along way in football. Gerrard in this England formation is no where near as good at that role than Barry, yet he was completely ignored.

DM is the position that English football just doesn't care about/get because its 'boring' and for player who have lost their legs. Imagine seeing grassroots football teams with DMs !

There shouldn't be enough players on the pitch in a grassroots game to need them.

I think Sterling is not suitd to the no. 10 role. He is too greedy and selfish on the ball.He either doesn't see what is happening around him or he doesn't want to see.
In time he will probably improve but at the moment he is best suited to a role on the wind.

Regarding Barkley,at this tournament I am perfectly happy to see him have a peripheral role.

youth football in general then...there are youth players who dead cert they know which position they want to/can play , how many of them do you think will want to play as DM.
