Realistically that's about his value. He might not be as good as James but there is a premium for English so on balance that's a good guide.

City fans are laughing at this story as a non-starter given the supposed price and the transfer restrictions they've got with FFP.

Shy of anything major happening, I think we've got 2 more years of Barkley before we either need to have properly progressed or we'll lose him. And when that happens, it'll most likely be Chelsea or Man U if they're back to where they were.

If we're in the Champions League (or even in and out) and winning trophies and progressing over the next 2 or 3 years, say Liverpool under Houllier, then I think we can keep hold of him as he enters his prime.

Keep hold of him while he's in his prime, with the other youth coming through, the cash that levels of moderate success would bring and a good management set up, you never know what we could achieve.
