That story is a perfect example of the Mirror's reporting. They simply couldn't have got it more wrong. Anyone who believes what's in the Mirror is a dunce.

I can guarantee you that the source for that inane article was taken from GOT,courtesy of the usual suspects, who in turn will then post the article up in here to complete the circle.
And where is Leighton Baines now?

The thing about that story specifically, is just that i don't get it at ALL.As a general rule, if a tabloid uses the tag 'exclusive', it's usually a load of crap.
The only paper rumours that really hold weight are the ones that all papers run with simultaneously, as it's usually a leak from one of the two clubs involved to various sources at once.
May be heart over head but I really don't see him leaving any time soon.
It's a nonsense story on a quiet period for transfers due to the World Cup - so the papers have to use the following equation to sell their rags: player not at World Cup+quite a high value+big club buying=paper sales.
Common sense tells you it'd have to be a bid north of £50m for us to sell at this point.

I mean, I get that newspapers make up transfer stories all the time when it's a slow news day... they have X number of column inches to fill no matter what. I understand that.
But what I don't get about that article in particular is that SURELY if you were going to make up a story, you'd put at least SOME effort into making it at least vaguely believable? I mean, if the article had even said £12m, then at least it'd be NEARLY realistic! But £5m?! And then to frame the figure by saying we'd be happy to get most of our money back that we paid to Wigan, when even at that stage Baines had become one of the best left backs in the league?
One of the weirdest stories I've ever read!
