If we're in the Champions League (or even in and out) and winning trophies and progressing over the next 2 or 3 years, say Liverpool under Houllier, then I think we can keep hold of him as he enters his prime.

Keep hold of him while he's in his prime, with the other youth coming through, the cash that levels of moderate success would bring and a good management set up, you never know what we could achieve.

Even if we achieve that level of success it will be hard to keep him as he'll want to win CL etc. But a) he might never get to that level and b) we can worry about that then. For now we just need him to sign a new contract.
