Ross Barkley

City have been very quick this summer to brief the media when we've been linked with players who they aren't going after. In particular when we were linked with Sanchez and Fabregas, on both occasions UK journos said they had been briefed by City there was no interest. Conversely with Barkley it's been the opposite over the last week. Simon Mullock at the Mirror and Stu Brennan at the MEN are both reporting that City are trying to offload three of four players to bring Ross in. As I say i'm skeptical but when I read about his contractual situation it did make me wonder. Was just curious as to how Evertonians saw the fact no deal had been signed yet when other important players like Coleman had put pen to paper.

Anyway whatever happens I just want to say that I think the lad is special. Very special. Also think you have a very special manager in Roberto Martinez. Wish you all the best both in the transfer window and in the upcoming season. A lot of rancour between City and Everton around the Lescott transfer, but for me both sets of supporters have always had a hell of a lot in common. We were very lucky as a club when Sheikh Mansour came in and honestly i've always said if there's any other club who I hope that happens to, it's yours. Put the reds back in their place.

I doubt City are going to take the time to address every daft rumour in the papers, mate.

I would be stunned if he left this summer. Zero chance in my opinion and I think you'd need to bid higher than the numbers talked about here.

If you have the money, you really should go for him, like. He's something else.

Actually I like the way City conduct themselves vis a vis transfers. Whilst certain other clubs have no problem with the papers linking them with players because it helps season ticket sales, City have certainly this summer and last ensured that we don't end up in a situation where the supporters are disappointed about a transfer that was never going to happen. Hence I used the Sanchez and Fabregas examples - both players that City fans were getting excited about until suddenly respected journalists were tweeting one after the other "been assured City have no interest in Sanchez/Fabregas".

I guess the reason I brought it up with regards to Ross is because Stuart Brennan at the MEN, someone who normally is pretty accurate in who City do/don't want, is saying City want Barkley this summer and are looking at moving out two or three players to raise the funds.

If it were up to me btw, I'd pay whatever Everton asked up to 50/60 million pound for him. He's going to be that good and we need to make that kind of statement with an English player.

If we were to lose both Rooney and Barkley, both before they reached anything near their full potential, in a mere 10 years, that would just be too much.

Fortunately, I reckon we'll get 2-3 more seasons out of him, at least.

I actually think that's the kind of money City will be bidding. Or to be more accurate somewhere around 40/45 million pounds plus Milner or Rodwell.

I'm talking about starting the bidding at that. You're looking in excess of £60m straight cash to even tempt our hand, and even then I don't even reckon the player wants to go.

It's a non-starter unless for some reason your club rates him like Messi and literally have to have him at all costs.

I think the only thing that'll settle my nerves would be Kenwright to come out and put the record straight, confirming that he wouldn't sell Ross even for 50 million pounds. That would be good enough for me.

Ross wont be going anywhere soon, roberto loves him, kenwright knows he'll get lynched if he dare sells another one of our gems, we are in a much better financial position than we were with rooney, and doubt ross would want the same legacy of hate amongst us like rooney has by leaving to early

Bidding wars don't happen mate. I'm talking about Everton's valuation, and believe me just like any player at any club, Everton will have one. If you're suggesting they value him at 60 million pounds already I think that's a little steep. Realistically somewhere around 40/45 million pounds, possible with a player thrown in to sweeten the deal.

I guess the problem from Everton's point of view is that if City come bidding they won't bid blind, they'll only bid if they have had some assurance from the player or his reps that he wants the move. Everton will know this too, so if that day arrives, they'll have to do the deal. Certainly based on his current contract because as I say otherwise he goes cheap next summer.

I want to be super respectful of you guys as a supporter base and as a forum so don't think i'm arguing it's happening or City are definitely going to sign him. I'm just looking at it from all angles because I really love the player. Funny you mention Messi, I said to a friend this morning that after Messi Barkley is the only player in the world I'd want City to sign right now.

We dont need to sell.

Price will be close to Bale money and even then I doubt martinez would sell.

Have city signed anyone this window yet as it sounds like a bit of straw clutching on journos comments who get paid to bring traffic to their sites and sell papers.

You reckon kinkladze would make your current side?

As I say in my post, the problem for Everton currently is that next summer his contract only has 12 months to run and he goes cheap. On that basis any move for him by anyone this summer, puts Everton in a very tricky situation.

Bale money is totally unrealistic for a player who didn't even get 10 league goals last season, no matter what his potential. Goal scorers command premium fees for a reason, and right now Ross isn't a goal scorer in the way in which Suarez, Bale, Rooney, etc are/were. He may develop into one over the coming years but rarely do players go from 5/6 league goals to 15/20 in the space of 12 months. The progression is usually a little more gradual.

City are also in a very tricky situation this summer. Firstly we are going to lose a raft of English players (Richards, Sinclair, Barry, Lescott, Milner, and Rodwell). Losing them all means we won't have enough English players to fill the PL or CL quotas. Secondly we have a transfer limit of 49 million pounds net, which we've just spent on Fernando, Mangala, and Caballero. As it stands at least two of our foreign players will not be able to be registered for the CL next season as our CL squad has been reduced as well. So there is definitely some logic in losing Negredo and Javi Garcia for a combined 30 million pounds, adding in what we get for Milner, Rodwell, and Richards, and moving for Ross.

One thing youre missing....the transfer fee is dictated by the selling club. That fee wouls be near bale levels if martinez would even sell at all.

You didnt answer my question on kinkladze. Would he get in the side now?

Oh god, don't remind me of that horrid window...
