Ross Barkley

Not at all. City have good fans. You hit the lottery, we wish we did however none of that changes anything.

Barkley might be sold but only for a bid around 50m-60m which is what he's worth in our opinion and probably the club's opinion too when looking at the prices of similar players.

As for the whole argument that City is a graveyard and it reminds you of what happened to SWP. How exactly did that go for him at Chelsea?

It's not about giving us another year. We didn't sell Baines and he wanted to go as well.

SWP wasn't as talented as Barkley hence his career stalled. Much like Adam Johnson when he moved to City. However look at what Lampard or Cole achieved after moving to Chelsea. They were good enough. Hence they stayed.

I wasn't suggesting that Barkley give you another year and then leave. However your Baines argument is well wide of the mark. Baines is a full back who was approaching 30 and was wanted by one club, a club in pretty big transition. I'm sure that Everton would love to keep hold of Barkley and I'm sure that if he indicates he wants to stay and sign a new contract then that's what will happen. However if he doesn't sign that contract things will get interesting for you guys. So far he hasn't ... so we wait and see.

I'm going to take serious exception to something you've posted there. Lescott, Barry, and Milner have all played KEY roles in EVERY trophy we've won since the takeover. They are/were important first team players. The fact is that Barry and Lescott are simply past it now. Milner played thirty odd league games last season. As for Sinclair, Johnson, and Rodwell. You're having a laugh right? First and foremost a player has to be good enough regardless of his nationality. Those three weren't so they are rightly binned. So when you say City is a "graveyard" for English players, what you mean is it's a graveyard for English players who aren't good enough. Ergo the young boy Barkley would do just fine at City.

Surprised you think I have a lack of empathy for your club. I'd say the exact opposite. The reason I'm on your forum and the reason I've enjoyed posting over the last 24 hours is because I feel at home because you're a sound bunch, just like we are. I said yesterday that reading the opinions of Barkley brought me straight back to the SWP transfer to Chelsea all those years ago. I'll never forget driving to see City play a friendly against Macclesfield Town, and seeing SWP pull up and then drive away 10 minutes later without getting out of his car. Then 20 minutes later City put out a statement saying he'd asked to leave. At the time it broke my heart that he'd asked to leave. I could understand Chelsea wanting him and I could understand him wanting to move. But he could've waited a year. Forcing the move that summer was painful to watch.

Anyway reading all the opinions on here I kind of hope City decide to sign someone else. I have a funny feeling I'd become most unwelcome pretty quickly if RB did end up moving to City next summer. ;)

Thats more like it! I know you love us. The second paragraph is a bit of how I and I guess a lot of Blues felt when Rooney did one to Manure after the 'once a blue always a blue' and it was all over SkySportsNews.

Haha... yeah, you might get a bit of stick, although the blame wouldn't lie with City or anyone else. The crowds with pitchforks and burning torches would rightly be outside Kenwrights backstage door.

To be fair my main point from the previous post was that perceived transfer value and weekly wage dont necessarily go hand in hand.

The other point I was making was one that City had previously hoovered up some English 'talent' which had then fallen by the wayside. If Rodwell, Sinclair and Johnston weren't good enough then why would City buy them? Selling clubs, especially those selling English players, are only to happy to take the cash and rightly hold the buying team to ransom, (after all it is they who have inflated the prices) they player is only to happy to hit the big time and when it inevitably goes wrong, too many seem happy to do a Wayne Bridge and see out their contract. Who can blame them?

I didn't mention Gareth Barry at all and I did say Lescott at a stretch, this was based on the fact that he failed to cement his place in the City or England teams following a £24m move. I can't for the life of me think of anyone who I know who would say that James Milner, albeit a good pro, played a key role in anything City have done in recent years. (but your a City fan so what do i know) Again, like Lescott, but to a greater extent Milner has failed to establish a place at club level or internationally and I don't think he has improved either. Milner played 31 times in the league for City last year, starting 12 and coming on as a sub 19 times scoring 1 goal and making 4 assists. The most Prem League games hes started in a season is 23 (2010-2011) The season before that (2009-2010) he started 36 games for Villa and scored 7 goals and made 12 assists.

Therefore I conclude moving to City or anywhere else is bad and Ross must stay. You owe us to stay away after we took Jo on loan (twice!)

I think Sinclair, Rodwell, and Johnson were down to Mancini and Marwood hating each other and them both being able to identify and sign players. There's a reason the Mancini needed to go. He wasn't a team player and it led to poor transfer planning and strategy.

You took Jo on loan twice??? Christ I can't imagine what kind of incompetent imbecile of a manager you must've had to have made that call!

It's not about giving us another year. We didn't sell Baines and he wanted to go as well. We sold Fellaini because they offered us enough money so that it made sense for us.
Great point about SWP, he was brilliant at City, scored some belting goals and had Barca players publicly backing him for the England team. Went to Chelsea, spent most his time on the bench and was never the same player, not even close to it.
I think there's a step change in players attitudes to joining elite clubs, especially if you're still developing your game like Ross. I think increasingly players don't want the 'Lukaku situation' where they're owned by a rich club but never in the team. We'll need to pay Ross what he's worth but I doubt that will be a problem, in fact Martinez is all about that, renewing contracts with years on them if the player's done well.

Totally agree about developing players sitting on the bench. It's a big no no and can seriously mess up development.

I agree I think he would make it at City but he wouldn't replace Toure next season so he would be a squad player because I don't know how much you've watched him bit he really can't play any other position than the ACM.

A year's development at this time is critical.

If you did sell Toure then with Aguero not fit and probably not likely to be fit for large parts of next season if ever again then he would have the weight of the team looking to challenge for everything plus a huge transfer fee to justify. He's still a young kid and not exactly the most confident personality either. That kind of pressure wouldn't be good for him.

He might be ready in another season but by then he will have wanted to sign a new contract so he's earning more than 15K a week and we'll hold all the cards.

And that's what's holding up the contract. Kenwright doesn't want to put in a release clause.

Sure I would have preferred not to be in this position but you make it sound like he would have to leave if City came calling. I don't think the player would want it and Everton wouldn't want to sell.

The point I was making about Baines was that he wanted to leave and Martinez refused to sell because Utd refused to meet our valuation.

If I make it sound like he'd have to leave if a club came calling I apologise as that's not what I'm saying at all. My point is more about his contractual situation and how that effects his value. As things stand today, Ross can't be valued at 50 million because his contract only has 22 months left to run or something like that. Even if you did value him at that, by January that valuation would have plummeted by half without a contract signed. From Everton's point of view, to maximise his potential (or his potential value) he needs to be tied down to a new contract. As I say, we wait and see. If I was a betting man I'd say he'll sign a new one within a couple of weeks.

Look if Barkley has shown no intention of signing a new contract then we will be sold sooner rather than later

If he stays in this window then he will sign a new contact

If he was to leave I would rather he went to Utd, A club with history and a real fan base

Haha. I guess you're another one of those people who thinks football began with the advent of the Premier League. Funny you were questioning my credentials and then you come out with something as poorly thought out as that.

I understand that's what you are saying but if we where to sell him this summer we would get his proper value. We judge that at around 50m you may disagree and that's fair enough.

As Del says if he refuses to sign a new contract then he'll be sold this summer but I don't think that will happen.

In that case the conversation is moot. 50 million/40 million whatever. You'll get top top dollar for him and that's the important thing.
