Ross Barkley

I get the impression we've tied that one up already, nobody seems particularly worried about it. Could be me being naive obviously, but it's his break out year under a manager who clearly trusts him and in a team he would stand out in. Money aside, it'd be a bit daft for him to move yet, if at all hopefully.

We've just got to face it mate. We're simply not allowed to have good players. If we do have a good player then really the moral thing to do would be to sell them on to one of the top 4 at a knock down price so they can progress their careers and help the England team, in Barkley's case. We're a disgrace for keeping hold of him tbh.

What else can you do though? Sometimes you hold onto these players a little too long or you just want to make sure they will make it at a big club before you sell them. I know that makes us selfish, but I couldn't live with myself if we sold the heartbeat of our team to a club that's won the lottery, knowing that they may or may not have exploding knees.

Knock down price? Hahahahaha. If there's one thing that's certain, you pull down the pants of whoever comes calling for one of your players. 27 for Fellaini, 24 for Lescott, 10 million for Arteta. Kenwright doesn't do knock down prices, and rightly so.

The one that really mattered and the one most similar to Barkley is the one we got screwed on. Most expensive ever teenager at the time, but still felt cheap.

£10 million was about the right price for Arteta. How much do you think he was worth? Bear in mind he's been first choice for a top 4 side since he left.....

You are correct in saying that this is not patronising or condescending. However, quite a lot of the posts I've seen from you are. It's the same sort of attitude that we see from United fans, speaking like if city wants a player it's a forgone conclusion that they will get him (whether it's this window or the next). Anyway it's ironic that the response to being called condescending/patronising is to patronise people further by telling them they're either insecure or a child.

From my point of view, I couldn't care less if you want to spend your time on an Everton forum drooling over Barkley because some rag has linked you with him. It's just a pity that Man City fans don't seem to have retained any of the perspective that I would've expected from their pre-billionaire days.

To be fair he's probably been supporting them for 4 or 5 years only. Surely he isn't that insecure or childish that he'll take offence from me saying it.

I think you've taken something i've said wrong. When I said earlier "it'll happen" in regards to Barkley, I simply meant City bidding for him. Just like I think Everton will bid for Lukaku. Long way from that to the player coming to City. Maybe United fans think it's a foregone conclusion when they go to sign players, but that's certainly not how I think.

I did say earlier that it's difficult for non CL clubs to keep players generally when CL clubs come knocking, but that's a much broader comment about football across Europe. It wasn't meant as some sort of barb about how City will definitely get Ross because I just don't think that as I say. With Martinez in charge, it'll only take Kenwright loosening the purse strings enough to allow him to build in key areas and you'll be a CL club yourselves.

About perspective from the "pre billionaire days", can you actually explain that comment? I'm curious as to what you mean. I remember being beaten by Oxford on a horrible Saturday in November nearly 20 years ago. There wasn't enough tequila in Manchester to kill the pain that night. I don't even want to think about those days. I'm not one of those who laments what City used to be. We were a joke a club, a yoyo club as someone else on here described. The damage Swales and then Lee did, could've finished us for good. Hell even that Thai despot did his best to drive is into administration, which we were literally days from the day we were bought. My perspective is right now we've never had it so good and I'm grateful Sheikh Mansour came along. I won't say we deserve it, but I've seen enough absolute bollocks that i've paid for the privilege of to not feel guilty about loving every minute of our current success.

Never thought of City as a joke club, sad to see a fan say that about his own mate.

Hard to disagree with a word of that to be honest.

It's certainly possible to hate City the club but not hate City fans (at least not the long-time fans). I do it. Easy. People will hate us when we start winning things other than mars bars too.

As for Ross he's not for sale. I think it's our turn to take a stand on one of these and it will be Ross and it will be next year. Speculation!
