Ifs there is that much swelling then it is more then only a meniscus

He may have strained either his medial or cruciate ligaments.

this isn't a tear or a rupture. Its a strain of the ligaments.

You still get swelling.

You scan it multiple times to monitor it repairing.

a 'first degree' strain is literally an injury involving a few fibres in the ligament.

a 'second degree' is involving the whole width of the ligament but no tearing.

A "third degree" injury is a complete rupture of the ligament and involves frequently damage to the minscus and other tissues like another ligament.

They are seeing if this is a second degree injury and then will monitor it repairing itself. Tears require surgery.

Incidently. 2nd degree injuries.

Typical rehab. 6-8 weeks.

First degree. 3 weeks.

So his knee HAS NOT exploded.

Its just a jarred knee. Normal. Not much to worry about if the scans all check out.

I wish people could listen to themselves.

"We'll be ok. We've got Naismith who can step in".

The level of delusion about this feller is staggering. He's utter tripe as a player who can slot into a starting line up of a CL chasing team. Can he do a bit of damage coming on against mentally tiring teams last 20 minutes when we have nothing left to lose? Yes. Has he impressed many times as a player over 90 minutes when we need to stick at a game of possession and pressure? No.

Pulling up a chair on this one. :coffee:

"Naismith is turbo gash" mark II.
I wouldn't go that far. He's of some use, but he's not a starting player for a PL team with serious top 4 aspirations. If he's starting games a decision has already been made to make do and mend rather than correct a massive problem that's just been handed to you.

Relax Dave. The Catalan Clown has got this.

People just need to calm down. He's already said he's looking to bring another one in before the window closes. He's got two weeks. Take a chill pill mate.

Remember what you said in January - I said the contrary. Result = Lukaku purchased.

Just let him get on with it.

He's got another one possible two on the list. So relax. Before you give yourself a brain haemorrhage

Barkleys injury is a loss need him fit ASAP. We have no creativity in the am role. Pienaar? I think he could play there. Shows tho injurys to are key players and we can struggle. Same as if lukaku is injured.

It'll be Naismith or Osman today, no doubt about it. And tbd we couldn't really do much else since Barks was only injured yesterday. Depending on scans which will confirm how long he's out for, then I can see us moving for another attacking mid or stepping up our efforts to get a versatile forward, such as Remy.

Atsu is more than capable of playing as a No.10 as well. Very Sterling-esque with his pace and trickery. Wouldn't be a bad option but I doubt Martinez will risk it in the 1st few games

If we are thinking of challenging for a top four place we cannot rely on any one player...that is the reason we need cover for Lukaku.
Barkley is a loss but a squad must be able to cope without players no matter how good they are.
If Coleman,Lukaku and Mirallas are ready for action then we still have a really strong ,strong team going out.
Possibly: Howard ,Coleman,Jagielka,Stones,Distin,Baines,Barry,McCarthy,Pienaar,Mirallas,Lukaku.....that would be a quality team.
The bench would not be bad either (from): Atsu,McGeady,Hibbert,Gibson,Naismith,Osman,Alcaraz,Garbutt,Browning,Long,Robles.

I have looked at our fixture list and if he makes it back in six weeks as optimistically suggested then he will miss five league games and be back for......Liverpool.
In that time there will also be a League Cup fixture and a European game, I doubt that he would have played either of those.
At this stage I would just like to have the injury confirmed to remove any fear of it being ACL or something more serious than they think at present.

I don't mind Naismith but hibbert and Osman shouldnt be starting games and defo not today but if they do im not looking.

That's what I'm fearing it's not: just today. We cant waste two months of this season with either of those two in the centre of midfield.

There's plenty who are content with it as an option. That's fair enough. But if our efforts to claim a top four place this season fall away quickly, that is the consequence of a decision to settle for a bench warmer taking Barkley's place.

Think it'll be Osman in behind Naismith, Hibbert right back.

And any game we start with those three in those positions, we'll lose as many as we grind out a win. You can't have three players of that quality in a team for any sustained period of time if you're chasing the top four.

In fact, if those three start, I might put a cheeky bet on a Leicester win. I don't have anything against Naismith really as a bench impact player as he moves well, but he doesn't impress from the start, and the less said about Osman and Hibbert in 2014 somehow being in an Everton starting eleven the better.
