Ross Barkley

Koeman doesn't rate Barkley that highly. Even if he stays, he will be a bench player next season. Barkley has not delivered wonder goals or great performances this season, unlike Lukaku, Coleman, and to a lesser degree Davies, Gueye and Schneiderlin. Koeman has said he will be looking for better players, and that's fine with me. Barkley can come on and regain his form and goal threat which he had in 2013/14.

LOL.

do we know what contract was offered to Ross?. I guess the details of that would reveal how highly Koeman rates him.

I don't think the value of the contract would have much to do with Koeman at all. His input would be whether he wants the player in the squad or not.

Anyhoos, today is the day we find out one way or the other.

Today will be very interesting reading/watching. If Ross decides to go he's either very brave or very stupid. Going on press coverage, no team is especially courting him. Obviously this ties in with the is he a starting xi player, or a decent gamble and squad filler for a top 6 team. Also despite his contract situation I think now is the most money we'll probably ever get for him, unless he stays and improves. It could just be as simple as he doesn't like Koeman. I just hope he makes the right decision. Personally I think he should get his head down sign maybe a shorter two year extension, with a buyout clause. Then at least he knows a team really want him as he's improved and will get regular game time. As the big lebowski would say: "theres a lot of ins, a lot of outs, a lot of what have yous".

...regardless of what is going on behind the scenes I do think the player owed it to the club and fans to make it clear what his intentions were some months ago. It's fine if he wants to leave but I'd have thought more of him had he made this clear.

Shouldn't have reached this stage...and certainly shouldn't have been played out in the open. Leaves a sour taste no matter what the outcome..and I've reached the 'really not arsed' stage, especially after the dire end to the season from both Ross and the rest of the 'superstars'

Meh

"Yeah there are talks planned," Koeman said. "I don't think talks have started yet.

"Those players who finished the contract after one year, he's one of them and we will do everything to keep Ross and sign a new contract."

--------------

That was March 9th and talks were only being planned then. He may not have received a contract offer until at least mid-April when the papers began to run stories of Barkley 'has been told to sign or be sold' so Barkley has not had much time and I blame the club more than him.

Dont think it leaves a sore taste if he stays. He has said nothing. Given no hints to the press etc. Maybe he was undecided.Wouldnt you want all players to do that rather than say ur staying 1 week and going on others.

...I suspect RK was never particularly bothered if Barkley signed or not, especially given the negotiations with Lukaku started some time ago and he's still got 2 years left. This might be why Barkley is miffed. Regardless, if he's no intention of signing I still think he should've come out and say so.

Can't see why there would be a press conference. Will be a simple 3 line statement on the club website more than likely. You hardly announce a press conference to the world's journalists to announce you've been jibbed off lol
