Ross Barkley

Arteta joined us at Barkley's age now - so it's comparing apples and oranges.

Before he joined us, he'd flopped at Sociedad and was written off by most as another footballer who took advantage of a terrible Scottish league.

If anything, comparing Arteta to Barkley should be a reminder of just how ridiculous the criticism of Barkley is given he's nowhere near approaching his peak.

Arteta and Pienaar also were very intelligent players.

If we had players anywhere near them two, with Ross, you'd be looking at a very very good side imo

Sorry there is no comparison, no matter what the stats say.

Arteta in his prime was a footballing genius.

Ross may go onto to be a very good player, but never a footballing genius.
That didn't win a cap for Spain
I think carzorla has about 80.
Arteta good player but massively overrated by some fans

The news is there's no news.

RK is probably on the plane to Malaga, Ross is getting a base tan at the studio before dying his hair blond like Robbie Willams when he left TakeThat.

Barkley day is just another disappointing day in the history of Everton days.

Thinking about it we could have done without spouting this in the press. We have to make an announcement TODAY as Ronnie has said and if we don't it will make us look small time in a way. If Ross is holding out for more money then I can see the club upping it today, I just can't see how they get out of this now. Ross certainly holds all the cards at the moment (if he wants to stay that is).
Make ultimatums in public = look like an utter spanner when deadline day arrives.

This is spot on.

Mirallas is an inside forward who looks to get beyond the striker; the complete opposite of Pienaar. As such, our full backs are limited in how they can get forward because neither the inside forward or striker have any interest in running channels or showing to feet, which again limits attacking options for a playmaker.

Schneiderlin is a very good start for Barkley in terms of building a better quality of footballing team around him, but apparently Koeman sees things differently.

If it were me, I'd have Schneiderlin, Gana, Davies and Barkley as the midfield bedrock of the squad, and build everything around those four.

The stats prove me right.

Mikel always hid in big games, injured when it was cold.

And Ross is only 13 assist and 18 goals behind Mikel entire carreer number!!!

For what it's worth....

Barkley: 179 apps (all comps.) - 27 goals (0.15 avg) - 28 assists (0.16 avg)
Arteta: 206 apps (all comps.) - 35 goals (0.17 avg) - 33 assists (0.16 avg)

Arteta's output is slightly better despite playing a withdrawn role at times.

He also scored some important goals (ie. v Villareal UCL Qual. 2nd Leg (05), v Fiorentina Europa Rd 16 2nd Leg (08) to take it to extra-time/pens. Also scored against Man U, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea.

In my opinion, Ross has a while yet before reaching Mikel's standards.

Pretty sure he took a fair few penos though old Micky.

Tubes, did you see that BBC interview last night with Ron?

Just to me - as it has all along - that doesn't look like a manager who is wanting Ross to go.

I think he's just not arsed either way. He wants better players in to compete with and compliment Ross, but if Barkley has dallied (for whatever reason - that's his prerogative) then obviously we're having to look at alternatives.

It's gonna be sorted sooner rather than later either way.

Personally, I think it'd be a shame if Ross goes without ever seeing what he could do with other creative players around him.

Then again, if he's not convinced on staying, then perhaps it's for the best if he does go.
