Schneiderlin is definitely of the quality of the first three mate - and Barkley has the potential to be that and so much more.

Gueye would never really excel in that way as he's more of a 'destroyer'.

I guess time will tell but the three players mentioned above dragged some extremely poor teams to 4th and 5th places and cup finals. Cahill scored at Anfield Emirates Old Trafford Etihad Stamford Bridge and is third in our premier league all time scoring charts for a midfielder who was already 25 when he joined. Although they didn't win anything and had their fair share of poor performances they showed that they could go toe to toe with good teams. Barkley in particular has never shown that at any point. He doesn't drag us up a level, if anything we have to create the perfect conditions just to get a passable performance out of him regardless of his obvious talents. I know the management was different but he's part of a core of players who have now finished bottom half twice and now 7th.

I like Schneiderlin, we play a lot better with him in the team but this is as good as he's going to be for us. He went missing at Spurs, and was poor at Arsenal which are the big games he's played in.

I'm not sure about Gueye. His stats are fantastic but he's gone completely missing in big games. I don't think he has the positional sense to do what Schneiderlin does sitting deep so he has to play the pressing destroyer but does he have enough on the ball to merit taking up a spot from a more creative player?

It's early days for the two of them of course and they're two of our better players so there's definitely other areas that need focus. The way some of our fans talk though you'd think we had one of the best midfields in the league, they've not turned up away from home for nearly half a season!
