Ross Barkley

The fact is pal you, nor anyone else on here, knows what he wants to do. I've read every rumour from... he's been tapped up and on a promise from Spurs/Arsenal/any other club to... he's already signed his contract and gone on his hols to chill. What we do know is he's been offered a new contract, and officially has still not signed it, even though he was publicly given a deadline. There's been radio silence from him and the club since the last day of the season, and any outcome is still possible.

So all this guff about 'we've sold our jewel and he's been treated shabbily and the club needs to tell us' is - until we actually hear something official - all a load of angry twaddle designed to fuel the agenda of those who choose to attack Koeman (who does not set or negotiate any players contract).

Why on earth do you expect the club to tell you or anyone else what's going on in what appears to be a sensitive and protracted negotiation?

Unfortunately the guff is all over this thread from people on both sides of the argument. People are getting wound up against either the club or the player based on speculation and rumours. It's bizarre.

I personally would prefer we would boot out the manager before we would even think to sell Barkley, but as of right now I have no clue what exactly is happening behind the scenes or what the outcome will be. Obviously my personal bias would lead me more to believe he has not been offered as good a contract as he deserves and that Koeman is not too bothered if he is sold, and I would be gutted if that's the case, but as of right now it could just as easily be Barkley looking for 250K a week and a paid bodyguard that's causing the hold up.

give us any link or rumour to that please ???

That info about Ball and his gambling debts was current at the time he was sold. It was said that Moores had bailed him out more than once, and told him, never again. He ignored the advice, got into debt again, and was sold to the other end of the country. That was the 'on the street' info at the time.

That kind of stuff is probably happening all the time behind the scenes at football clubs.

Why did Alan Whittle and David Johnson suddenly move south? Word on the streets was...

Why did Ray Clemence of the RS, at the height of his career winning things, suddenly up sticks and head to the opposite end of the country? I know the answer to that one from entertainment business insiders at the time, but will never set it down in writing.

And Frank Worthington at the height of his career failing a medical at the RS? My mate's father was one of the RS doctors at the time. The low down on that was rather interesting...

Joey, there are always rumours about why players suddenly get moved on, some carrying more weight than others.

Not ultimatum is needed then is there sir!
By the manager who does and is not supposed to influence contracts he'll he not in charge of transfers anymore!

Interesting response. I can conjoin any of those words and get an answer that saves debate.

Maybe an ultimatum was needed if the thing was so stuck it was not moving?

Surely the manager is expected to know who will be in his team the next season and what he has to ask for if one of them is not making it clear. Everyone in football - and one or two outside - knows that a contract with one year to run is a time that a club will either DEMAND a new contract or sell. This is not rocket science, it is purely protectionist for the club. How anyone can even debate this issue seems somewhat confusing.

Should he stay and should we pay over the odds for him is one discussion. If he does not sign then the club HAS to sell. Its a fact of economic life.

So it took 12 months to get it moving then?

And? I don't go around on other threads drawing everyone into the same argument like some do.

I don't like Ross. I think he's overhyped and overrated. He's frustrating to watch and I hope we get good money for him because we can do better. Nothing hidden.

I don't really care whether your agenda is hidden or not. you are calling out others for blaming Koeman based on bias whilst doing the same thing yourself with Barkley

so, shush please

Don't think any way a player handles contract negotiations, short of signing quickly, can please the fans tbh - Rom talks about his contract situation all the time whilst Ross keeps quiet and yet neither makes us happy!
I'm just glad he isn't slandering the club or causing a ruckus like Yaya Toure did (THEY 4GOT MY BIRTDAY AND I CRI EVERTIEM). If he leaves, I won't hold any ill will against him because he has plenty of reasons to leave. I just hope he stays because he is a very talented player (couldn't care less about him being one of us).
