Ross Barkley

Going off this quote, some time after January...

Everton secured new deals on Friday for the veteran midfielder Gareth Barry, defender Leighton Baines and promising youngster Mason Holgate.

Negotiations have not yet commenced on an extension for Barkley, with the England international enduring a difficult season under Ronald Koeman.

Koeman said: “We know he has about 18 months left. That’s not the priority now. In the new year we will have talks about his situation and his future but the priority now is playing and winning and see what happens in January. I’m not interested in what is said about the future of players. There is no one knocking on the door now about players from Everton.”

I defend him , but to me he is going I feel to reading these pages his support is waning for him if he feels not wanted by the club and the many posters on here who feel they know everything in his contract - then if he goes I wish him all the best as I feel he will become a very top midfielder as Rooney proved to be !
He was sold to cheaply , and now like @davek stated why was this contract left to run down if he had the same feelings last year then we should have got top money last year or thrashed out a good deal for him - this has turned into a public debarcle - Moshiri needs to kick backsides too!
It's been an utter fiasco mate. The club have been clownish over the whole issue. They just took it for granted Barkley would do as he was told. Now we'll lose a very good player and a small fortune.

give us any link or rumour to that please ???

Well it was a few years ago, before the internet was invented. But that was certainly the rumour going around the city at the time. Perhaps I am too old and befuddled to remember accurately enough, but I clearly remember this being discussed as the reason, at the time. best I can do I'm afraid.

Maybe the lack of clarity from the club lead to the rumours, something avoided this time because of the clarity we have had from Koeman.

Found this on the net ... and I did say allegedly.

"Rumours of paying off gambling debts, etc were clung onto by the Evertonians at the time, wanting to know the real reason why their hero was sold at his peak."

I don't understand the notion that Koeman has given up on Barkley and is driving him out of the club. If that was the case Everton wouldn't be asking for this rumoured £50 million that absolutely nobody is going to pay because the present stand off doesn't do the club any good at all. If Koeman wanted Ross gone the asking price would be far lower so we could move him on quickly and find a replacement.

Unless the asking price is already low and there is no interest in him however...

Papers also say he was offered a contract in March too.

I think Bill thought he'd be an easy deal so left it very late.

There were reports of a new deal being put forward as long ago as April 2016 mate

Hw was not that honest with Southampton - come on every game we played badly this season who got the blame ???
Ross - while other players stunk the place out as I stated it has been handled very badly by the club if he signs then fine but if he goes on to be another Rooney -fans like you will forget what you posted then moan if RK moves on!
we only sold him for 30 milion etc look at him now etc
having a dig at a youth player who has come through the ranks is imo harsh!
You have not been, and I respect your opinion - others have vicious, some posters have, and been rightly reported - yes we all hope he stays , but the club have gone public far too early imo if he wants to go the sell him and then explain!

The fact is pal you, nor anyone else on here, knows what he wants to do. I've read every rumour from... he's been tapped up and on a promise from Spurs/Arsenal/any other club to... he's already signed his contract and gone on his hols to chill. What we do know is he's been offered a new contract, and officially has still not signed it, even though he was publicly given a deadline. There's been radio silence from him and the club since the last day of the season, and any outcome is still possible.

So all this guff about 'we've sold our jewel and he's been treated shabbily and the club needs to tell us' is - until we actually hear something official - all a load of angry twaddle designed to fuel the agenda of those who choose to attack Koeman (who does not set or negotiate any players contract).

Why on earth do you expect the club to tell you or anyone else what's going on in what appears to be a sensitive and protracted negotiation?
