Ross Barkley

I'd be delighted if we got £35m for him, however talented he may be I think he's a sandwich short of a picnic. It's hard to fathom what has been going through his head for the last 12 months or why he thinks he will be better off elsewhere, think he's making a mistake but if he wants out then that's that.

I think it's clear what's happened to him. He's not valued at his club by his manager, and his contract offer was probably poor in comparison to Lukaku or recent flop signings like Williams who is on £70k.

I totally understand him wanting to leave. He won't go down a level or even sideways when he leaves us, and we'll definitely get £30m+. But it should be £50m+. We should have sorted this contract out 12 months ago and if Koeman wanted rid he could have done so on the clubs terms. It's been terribly handled from top to bottom. The club has taken Barkley for granted in my view.

...FootballLondon now picking up on the fact that Barkley has closed his Instagram account which included images aplenty of his career at Everton. This is causing a stir because some see this as severing links with the club.

No one exactly know what the contract worths. It can be the other way round. He has taken the club for granted in regard to being one of the top earner.

I fear this is re-writing history or fake news. Loads of people got stick for poor performances. The problem with Ross is we all know he CAN do it, he just DOES NOT too often. When you have that talent, it should be consistently good performances with an occasional fantastic one and very few poor ones. That is not what we get, we get an occasional fantastic performance mixed up with a lot of rubbish (by his ability) and an occasional good one.

As regards honesty, Koeman was clearly frustrated at the lack of response from the Barkley camp, EFC are well within their rights to say, contract offered, sign or leave. Fans know what the situation is, so no surprises (or shocks) and Barkley knows exactly where he stands. Cannot see the issue at all.

With regards to sales of former players in different era:

Ball went because he had gambling debts and the club would not bail him out again (allegedly)
Lineker was bought in public on TV by Terry Venables at the world cup tournament, effectively leaving the club nowhere to go as this had unsettled the player and the team.
Rooney wanted away to earn big bucks and win something (he achieved both very adequately) When we sold him for 30 million it was the biggest deal for a teenager in history. You cannot judge that deal by modern prices - and the club was skint and had to sell.

EFC approached Southampton legitimately and properly and they allowed us to buy Koeman out of his contract

Sometimes we should decide if a player is bigger than the club - and Barkley certainly isn't. Sign or toddle off, it is as easy as that.
give us any link or rumour to that please ???

Selling players against their will in years gone by, has zip to do with Ross being called out about his contract. The club has to protect the asset value of it's players, Bosman means that they can't allow high value players to enter the last year of their contracts.
So there lies the issue why was his contract not sorted out with 2 years to go????

that's simply not true...it wasn't always Ross at all that always got the blame, just not true...you have blinkers on.
He is very unlikely to be another Rooney but I hope for his sake he could get close to it anyway whether he's with us or not but he would need to man up a bit I feel.
One key difference in our viewpoints is you would prefer him sold first and then we get an explanation and I would prefer to know in advance what's happening....nothing we can do about that now. I think people getting heated on here are shocked that he would even consider leaving tbh and that's why he's probably getting more grief about it. By the same token his mistakes will be amplified at another club and fans will be less forgiving of him... I honestly feel he is more likely to become another Sissoko at Spurs rather than a Rooney at Utd but could well be a Siggurdson at a Swansea too... He's better off here(as Koeman said himself) and being part of something special
OK what is happening?
as for siigggurson is 29 and over priced oh and swansea have reject our bid!

Given our recent history of ensuring our young players are tied down on long contracts, then is it not likely that we've been trying to sort out a new deal for him for the last 12 months?

The bottom line is that he's chosen not to sign a new lucrative contract with EFC. That's his choice, the club tried to bring it a head and apply pressure on him, but to no avail, he's either banking on there being a lot of interest in him, or he's content with running his contract down. Either way I can't fathom his logic, being a local Blue who's had a 6 figure weekly wage slapped in front of him.

let us see the details as you seem to know everything!
its seems to be a nod nod wink wink situation you believe the media all you want, and we would be signing 10 players atm!

We've offered him a new long term deal, which by definition will be extremely lucrative, what are you even arguing about?

Exactly this. Always been chronically overrated on here anyway, only of late people have realised that the Emporer had no clothes.
Get rid, move on. Couldn't care less.

he obviously does not like the terms so we will sell him under the proper asking price this is a cock up by our club - last summer we should have offered him a deal with 2 years to go its 50 million v 30 million or less now!
Lukaku was offered a deal with 2 years to run why was RB not?

maybe he was?! just negotiations dragged on until it became public
also it might be because Lukaku is a better player than Barkley whether we like it or not

Truth is that none of us have any idea of what has really gone on, so pointing the finger at one or other party is just guesswork. Those people who don't like Koeman will blame him, those who don't rate Barkley will say he's greedy and so it goes. The only fact is that there's an impasse and we now need to get the best deal we can, making accusations on the back of zero knowledge is a waste of time.

I may have missed this, but when did we offer Ross the new contract?

Again you're assuming that he wasn't offered a new deal when he had 2 years left on his contract......
