The flipside is that Pochettino (spelling?) has had an excellent track record in developing young English talent since his Southampton days and a move to Spurs could be excellent for him as it gets him away from Liverpool where there is a fishbowl element for any player who is a local lad. Especially if that lad likes to go out for a drink round town. And going to Spurs he is probably going to be viewed as just another squad player with no significant attachment and not be under the spotlight as much as he is here.

The hype has been concentrated on him at Everton since before he made the first team and that can be just as detrimental to him as any aspect of a move to Spurs could be. I'd love him to sign a new deal here and flourish but let's not get carried away and pretend a move to Spurs can only be a disaster for him. Dier, Ali, Walker, Trippier and Bale did alright going there.

moving to spurs for big money will be just as much a fishbowl as he is currently in.
regardless of the players you mentioned , we know barkley and what his confidence is like when he hits a bad patch.
its why he is still seen as a 'young prospect' rather than the adult pro he should be. he has to be handled with care because of his nature.
he needs support encouragement and patience, everton is the best place for him to get that.
if he doesn't get that , he will sink.

Insane isn't it mate. @Mikey_Fitzgerald posted something a while back which was spot on regarding working relationships and sometimes folk just don't get on. But on a professional level sometimes you just make it work. Koeman wants best for Everton, picked him more than he dropped him, contract offered ( big one apparently ) and nothing.

Supposedly Sheringham and Cole hated each other for the mancs but for the great of good were professional and slotted for fun

Got to be an agent thing hasn't it mate.
Koeman openly criticised Barkley early on last season, he was wrong and even admitted as much. I get the feeling that Barkley, wanted out from that point on. Instructing his agent, he wasn't going to sign another contract and to get himself another club. Maybe he feels moving to the likes of Spurs and their English contingent will stand him in better stead about getting in the England squad.
What Ross needs to realise, the Spurs manager is as every bit demanding as koeman and the only way he will get back in the England squad is delivering consistent performances. Consistency and being able to influence games is what all top players strive for, but only the best attain.

He needs to toughen up and accept that Koeman acts for the good of the team, not just for him personally.
I appreciate that mate, but I get the impression koeman isn't a great man manager, but has high standards and expectations of his players and they all respect him for his standing on the game. He is ruthless no doubt about it, and as you say he only wants what's best for the team, even if he has to ruffle a few feathers to get it.

Can we say without doubt that Everton is the best place for the arm around the shoulder treatment, that's the treatment required and do we know for certain that Koeman is the man to deliver that? I'd be reluctant to say one way or another as I don't know either guy and don't work with them day in, day out.

I'd also argue that in the current market any transfer fee under £40M wouldn't really be seen as a big money move.

If a scenario similar to that has played out then I'd say recovering from such a breakdown in a professional relationship is going to be difficult. Barkley may well be aware that hard work and consistency are required but he may not be willing to do it for Koeman and I doubt Ronko is the kind of guy who will bend over backwards to appease a player with that kind of attitude when he can just get someone else in.

Hes not got the mentality to be a top player

moving away is a gamble.
if he signs , the players will be happy , the manager will be happy , the fans will be happy and ross will grow in confidence from that.

he stays = the season he grows into the next stage of his character and development.

Your last paragraph is spot on mate, for his sake ( and I've said this time and time again) the best football club for Ross to improve is Everton football club 100%

And Koeman said exactly that also...he wanted him to sign, and if not to tell the club he isn't signing, Ross has done neither unfortunately. I remember Lukaku saying Martinez was all about him and Ross all the time...well it certainly inflated RL's self importance, maybe it did Ross' also?! This is all a dark stain on a perfect transfer window really and I don't blame Koeman for it at all

Is the bother that he had in the bar in town anything to do with him wanting out?
Serious question, I have no idea what it was all about.
