If both players wanted to leave Spurs then they too would be sold. Anyone claiming otherwise is talking bubbles out of their backside.
With regards to Rom and Ross both players decided they wanted to leave and refused new improved contracts. That's their decision so we buy players to replace them.
I don't get this love in for Ross though as it's him who is wanting to leave and putting the club in this situation not the other way round.
