He wants him to stay.

What he doesnt want is a good player sitting on his arse for the last year of his contract.

...Koeman is unlikely to be here in 3 seasons time, I think he's said that. The club have offered Barkley a new deal, he can stay on improved terms if he wishes. Under Martinez Barkley was the phenomenal centre of the Everton universe but we were an average side. Koeman wants more from him and perhaps his ego has taken a bash. Regardless, it doesn't look like he wants to play for Everton which is entirely his right. What I can't understand is why folk blame Koeman or the club.

I can see him at Newcastle in a few years, up and down between the Premier League and Championship on huge wages, probably with no further England caps to his name and having completely burned his bridges at Everton

Even if he doesn't get on with Koeman it's not like it's going to matter in 2 years more. Hell, I don't think Koeman will see out past the end of this year. No reasoning, just gut feeling.

Think he's being given massively poor advice.
