Ross Barkley

So we see a headline saying Ross agreed terms with Spurs and transfer fee will be in the region of £17m. Everyone falls about laughing and spits coffee over their laptop.

Half an hour later see another headline, in one of the rags might I add, that he's demanding wages of £150k pw and its greedy bstard this and off his head that.

Get a grip lads. Its all paper talk.

Sunderland held out last year over Kone. He signed a contract after the window shut. If we don't get an offer we can accept, I can see a similar situation developing.
Ross would be stuck with little or no first team football in a wc year. It may then be better for him to sign with us to get game time.

Maybe but were not holding out and no way should we give him a better contract, if he signs its only to keep his value up for us and because no one wanted him, either way pretty sure Koeman knows he isnt as good as he thinks he is and wont have him in his regular first team plans even if he is still an Everton player once the window shuts

This is just my opinion. We are going back and forth, trying to decifer the stalemate; the silence.
The answer is sometimes the simplest. The club have offered him a contract because they want him to stay.
Ross wants to join his England pals at a top 4 team. He thinks he's good enough. He thinks he deserves it.
He thinks playing for Everton is having a detrimental affect on his career.
He thinks by not signing the contract, that it will hasten his dream move.
Everton will know his stance and so will the other players. His stance has been known for many months. He has probably reached the point of no return despite Everton showing ambition.
Now here is the sad part. Ross isn't the player he thinks he is. He has let his ego get in the way of common sense. The bottom line is that Ross Barkleys Everton career is over.

Your answer might be the 'simplest' but, there is an alternative..
The club have, belatedly, offered him a contract because they don't want to lose out on the transfer fee.
Ross wants to stay and be a part of a successful Everton team, he's good enough and deserves it.
He thinks playing for Everton has served him well so far, he's played well for England (anybody reply with "he didn't get picked by".. the likes of Roy Hodgson, Sam Allardyce and Gareth Southgate, should lower their heads).
He thinks, by not signing the contract, he will get offered more and maybe RK will shut up and stop talking about him.
Everton and the players will know his stance, a path trodden so many times before and with the blessing of many a player.
Ross is the player he and many, many others think he is. The bottom line is that until it's a done deal, he's still an Everton player and hopefully, is until after RK (does a good short term job and moves on, which he will) goes.

Cant even blame the agent here i dont think, Ross is master of his own destiny

He is but his agent wants a big slice of this pie. I think Ross has been badly advised personally. He should have signed the contract and battled for his place if he joins Spurs he will be a rotation option at best. I think the club knew he was off at Christmas.

Your theory is plausible. I just believe there is more to this than Ross holding out for a better contract.
