Ross Barkley

...I have to be careful what I say on this thread but imagine the queue of clubs after a truly top young player approaching the last year on his contract. It must say something that only Spurs appear interested in getting this supposedly brilliant talent on the cheap. Just saying.

It's a valid point mate. It's a bit weird that only Spurs seem keen.

I just can't see the club playing hardball with Ross over a contract. It's not in the club's or Ross's best interests to do that. The club are generally really good at getting contracts over the line and certainly don't have any recent history of undervaluing a players worth.
Ross has seen Stones and Lukaku depart for clubs above us and he sees himself in that bracket. I doubt Koeman has time for players who don't want to play for him, which explains his demeanour towards anything related to Ross.
Fair play to Ross. If he has ambitions of joining a regular top 4 club then who are we to begrudge him. The point I'm making is that everything points towards Ross being the instigator here. As far as I'm concerned, Everton and Ronald Koeman have been more than fair with Ross and have done nothing wrong.
The longer this goes on the more my view is chsnging along these lines.

However the difference here is who we are dealing with. City United andd Chelsea normally just pay what they need to get their man. Spurs dont and I think they wont get close to matching our value.

If nobody else comes in for him I can see Ross still being an Everton player come the end of the window.

A very fair point. If he was all that in the eyes of the other managers of the top 6 then they would be all over it if only to get a young English player to help their squad numbers for europe. Says it all they aren't.

According to a guy on a Spurs forum.

Just saying what everyone else is saying.

Woke up to text from friend associated with club. Should be announced today nowhere near the £150k mirror are saying. 90 plus bonuses

For me it will be interesting to see where he fits with eriksen and dele. Still need that blistering pace and end product wide man of the mane type imo.

If that is true, and it's going to be announced today, for that wage, then it's purely because he wanted out.

Which, if this is the case, is fine. Good riddance, just like with Rom.

If any player doesn't want to be here, for whatever reason, they can go. We'll move on. I won't shed a tear over it.

I'll be a bit annoyed that they're choosing to go when we're building something, but we'll get over it.

Why do you have to be careful? That's spot on.

Rom's deal was worth a reported £190k per-week at United

We offered him £140k per-week...

Yes but Utd make billions & we only make millions :(
Not worth breaking our salary caps (if indeed we have one) for a player who flatters to deceive.
This has West Ham on TDD for £20m written all over it .... and RB will find his level there as the new Payet

John Cross seems to have a real vendetta against Ross

Anyone remember earlier in the year where he interviewed Mane and then got a snide shot in at Ross?

Take anything that rag says with a gallon of salt

Oh I don't trust the Mirror at all.

We'll see.

This has all been handled badly by all parties really, though we could have offered him a deal this time last year and he may not have signed it.

We have been in talks since Jan. That would mean he had 18 months left on his deal at the time, which seems a perfectly rational time to start discussions.

He hasn't - for whatever reason - signed this deal. People need to get that in their heads.

This just needs sorting out now, either way.

I love Ross. Really do want him to stay and be a big part of the club moving forward. But he's been badly advised and if he's not signing one of the better deals we've offered to a player in our history, then it does ultimately suggest he wants out.

Still more to this. Why would Spurs pay 50 mill for him and make him the highest earner when he isn't a starter for them.

Barkleys agent is trying to get a better deal from us or he just is a greedy git
Possibly but wouldn't the agent's better move be to put out a leak that Spurs are prepared to pay £150k pw (I can't believe I'm writing that figure) rather than him asking for it?
