Ross Barkley

But the media/pundits would have us believe Deli Alli is the better player of the two.

Let the media continue to hype Alli over Ross, it'll put him under the transfer pressure spotlight soon enough and meanwhile, Ross will continue to blossom with the club he always wanted to play for... and for years to come fingers crossed.

This lad is a diamond anybody who doesn't think so needs their bumps feeling, Alan Ball was my idol growing up, and if anyone thinks one of the greatest players to ever play for this club never missed placed a pass or didn't pick the right pass or missed a goal then think again all the greats make mistakes and Ross is no exception, but one thing above all others that a great player never does is hide, and Barkley never hides he's always looking for the ball, always makes himself available for a pass, and is always demanding the ball. He's comfortable taking the ball in tight spaces and very rarely loses it. This to me shows a young man extremely confident in his own ability, we should appreciate him for as long as he stays with us.

To the Everton fans slating Barkley, do everyone a favour and just stay away from Goodison. Horrible creatures that are fed up with their own miserable lives, bitter with envy because a local lad is earning a fortune doing their dream job. Horrible, horrible poisonous vermin.

Please stop this. I normally think your posts are spot on and up there with @Joey66 and @davek on here but here you're verging on real whopperism. This cult of Barkley is embarrassing.

First of all there's a massive difference between those fans as you call them that "slate" Barkley and those that simply don't think he's the Scouse Messi and walks on water. I've seen few, if any, of the former. I've not read any on here and nor have I seen or heard real critics at the match.

I think a lot of the negative noises that do sometimes surround Barkley at the match are groans of frustration and/or disappointment rather than anything else. Yes there's probably the old fella a few rows behind that says he is s#### when he fails to pull off a clever pass or loses possession too easily. But that's more a lack of vocabulary than anything else. That man probably doesn't really think he's s#### he just can't articulate anything better in the heat of the moment. Fans watching on TV or hearing the game on the radio perhaps don't sometimes remember the passion of seeing it live. If Barkley is driving forward on a 50 yard run through the middle of the park and holding off two opposition players in the process I'm on the edge of my seat and standing up like everyone around me. If then, at the crucial moment, he holds on to the ball too long and misses the simple pass to let in Lukaku or Dell then I'm angry and frustrated like any other fan. That's just a natural human reaction isn't it? The cold hard analysis should probably applaud the move he's made to advance the game but that's easier said than done.

No Evertonian wants Barkley to fail. Nobody with even half a brain can seriously say he's not very good. Nor can they deny he has moments of magic and a huge amount of potential.

There are clear areas he needs to improve on and there are still too many games where he's largely ineffective.

And as for the idea of making him captain.........not in a month of Sundays! He can't string two sentences together and he doesnt have the drive or aggression of a Rooney or a Slippy to compensate. Ultimately he's still young and an extra burden would be just hugely detrimental in my opinion.

Tbf Ali has been excellent, reminds me a bit of Ross his first season although slightly more advanced - Barkley's leg break and lack of game time could well have accounted for some of the difference. However Ross has come back from that trauma, a MCL injury, the pressure of a World Cup and last years poor season - really showing his mentality now which is what often seperates the best from the rest.

Ali will hit a rough patch at some point, not that I wish it on him but all young players do as we're seeing with Stones, time will tell how he deals with it.
