Got told a story by a lad who used to be a performance analyst at Everton, when still in the youth side, we were playing Chelsea youth, Ross turns up for the match and decides to play the entire game left footed, he basically got told dont be a tit, but goes out and does it anyway, he got MOTM
Didn't Bobby Charlton train now and again with his right boot off.

jonjo tictac head has been in team of the week on bbc twice since joining newcastle for displays that would get ross booed off by the park end, also in between Ross utterly dominating him

Yeah, all very well pointing that out like, but get this...

Jonjo Shelvey: Newcastle's £12m buy the best value - study

Newcastle's £12m purchase of Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey was the best-value signing of the January transfer window, according to a study.

Analysis from the CIES Football Observatory says the 23-year-old England international is worth £23.5m.

What price Barkley, if uncle fester's 'worth' £23.5m?

No words.

Gerrard didn't really become world class until he was about 24-25 imo. It's easy to forget that his early years he thought every pass had to be a 60yd defence-splitter from inside his own half. Although to be fair having Owen in your side that sort of sh1t comes off more than it should.

Barkley has more of the Gazza about him, although I don't think he's as flamboyant.

I've said this many times, if you then have Torres at his peak and then Suarez it does make it easier to hit those Hollywood passes, they don't have to be pinpoint accurate just lump it into the channels. May explain why he was ineffective for England.

He was obsessed with that till the age of about 30 I think. Way off world class for me.

Not sure how anyone can doubt gerrard was world class at his peak. The only people I ever see claiming otherwise are our fans and United fans which says a lot.

Great player who caused us untold misery.

If Barkley gets close to having the same impact on Everton that Gerradd had at Liverpool we will be a very happy fanbase.

if Barkley only matches gerrard as a player, he will not have fulfilled is potential

Michael Ball column

I was delighted to read the stories that Everton want to talk to Ross Barkley about a new contract in the summer.

And I was particularly thrilled by Roberto Martinez's comment that Ross is "a player you can build a project around."

I agree entirely with the manager, but if I was Ross, or one of his representatives, there's one clause I would be asking to be inserted into any imminent talks.

And it wouldn't be anything to do with money or length of deal.

I would be asking for Ross Barkley to be made captain of the club when the position next becomes available.

Phil Jagielka is an excellent skipper, but he's 33 and if Ross does sign a contract extension the armband could be changing some time during the duration of his new deal.

It's a few years since we've had a local lad leading the Blues out. I think Alan Stubbs was probably the last, then before that it was Waggy (Dave Watson).

And I firmly believe that having a local lad leading the club out makes a difference.

Chelsea take great pride in John Terry being their skipper, while across the park they had Steven Gerrard for a long time.

In my mind it definitely adds something to a club. Local players have the full feeling for the club in their blood.

They know about its history, they know what makes the fans tick and they know what matters to people.

And I also think that the extra responsibility would add something to Ross's game.

He has been excellent this season – and we need to prove to Ross that we can match his ambitions when they sit down to talk – but being captain of the club would, I think, help him.

He has accepted even more responsiblity this season and showed he can handle it.

Ross Barkley, Everton captain, has a nice ring to it.

Haven't a clue mate, might be one for @Eggs to field

...strange is that because I have long compared Barkley to Charlton, indeed a long time ago I posted a montage of Charlton to illustrate what I meant. Barkley is much more Charlton than Gerrard.

Not sure about the right boot theory re Charlton but I have heard him recall how he got that fantastic shooting ability with both feet. Charlton said he painted a line about 4 ft off the floor on the wall of the Old Trafford car park, he'd then spend hours striking footballs keeping them below that line. Look back at the 66 World Cup goals and it's amazing how many were hit hard and flat at that height. Great player was Bobby Charlton.

Agree. He basically carried an inept Liverpool team on his back for a number of years after Owen left. Won them matches and trophies almost single-handedly. Class player, but it took him 5-6 years of continual improvement to get there. Any club would have loved him in their side.

Pretty sure Zidane said he was one of the best in the world as well during his peak, id say he's a fairly good judge of talent.
