Another area he has developed over the last couple of seasons is his ability to impact a match as a substitute.

Used to be that unless he started the game or came on at half time he struggled to adapt to the pace and tactics of a match, whereas he seems to get up to speed much faster now.

Not wanting to get into a discussion about Martinez in this thread but is it unfair to say Ross looks a better player for England than he does on occasions for us?

Against Germany he made himself available gave it short when there was no space available and drove forward into areas when space was available but hey he aint no Lallana or Henderson

I think all that is missing for us mate ( in Barkleys game) is the defensive side of things and I'm 100% confident that he has strict instructions not to track back, tackle etc. Our whole front line never do it and it's plainly obvious that they are told not to. Like you said, it'd not about trying to Martinez bash it's just as clear as day isn't it that Ross is given no responsibility whatsoever and is just told to try and impact the game offensively.

Funny Sunday people I'm reading marked him 5/10 England's worst player. Absolute joke. Even hodgson admitted after the game, the introduction of Barkley, nullified the influence of Kroos on the game. As you rightly pointed out, used the ball really intelligently.
