Send him and the rest of the squad on an intensive fitness boot camp, I have never known any other blue to play for us and show so little heart.
Why waste that amount of time getting fit, when the time could be used passing the football. ( you can just hear Martinez and his awful back room staff saying this)

How many forward passes did he play yesterday ? every time he gets the ball he positions his body to pass it backwards.

21 England caps, nominated for Young Player of the Year, raved about by every manager in the league and beyond.

But just overrated by us.

Ok mate x

21 England caps and helped them to win what? Did he win young player of the year? How many of the raving managers would be up for paying the big price tag. Scored some great goals yes played some good football as well but just not often enough.

Yep but he didn't used to do this until Roy was in the media and now he believes it all about completed passes.
He will be better under the right manager

I could forgive him not pressing and tackling if he made himself an outlet for others when we are under pressure, but they pass it to him and most times he just passes it back to them and heaps up the anxiety levels! If he is to be a luxury player, fine, then he needs to react like Del, Lennin or Gibson, i.e. Get the ball and move it towards the oppositions goal! If he cant do that he is simply a part of the problem. If he lacks the confidence to do that at the moment, then drop the poor sod and let him get a break from the pressure!

....I've been critical in the past but think he's done well this season, illustrated by his much improved goals and assists count. Saying that, despite the talent top players grab big games by the scruff of the neck and make things happen and he shows no sign of making the step up to that higher level.

Had a great first half to the season eggs but fitness and form seems to have fell off a cliff 2nd half. Letting people jog passed you when they are within touching distance just isn't acceptable in my opinion.

I'm confident though a top manager will raise his game to the required level and have him putting in top performances and more consistent performances over the course of a season.

Give him pre season with a manager that can give him proper direction and support, and he'll become great. We shouldn't underestimate the Martinez effect, he looks overweight and disinterested, but anyone who thinks we should cash in on him now is a bit daft.

Yesterday, it wasn't what he did with the ball that annoyed me hugely as much as what he did, or rather didn't do, when he didn't have it, standing round like a rather gormless looking statue and watching the world go by.

Hes at his best when he doesn't think - when his body takes over and he goes on a slaloming run or pulls off a nifty piece of footwork. Or blasts it first time

When he has to think you can literally see the cogs turn and his whole play slows down

...I also think he's the key in the system RM plays, 2 CMs who rarely cross the half way line means there is so much of a dependency on him to link back with the front. It doesn't help that RM has been playing industrious wide players. I keep comparing this team model with that of the mid-80s.

That team had two defensive CMs but they hunted in a pack, playing very close together. The key difference was the offensive contribution of the wide players in that side, Steven and Sheedy scoring and creating goals. I keep saying that I can't understand how Deulofeu doesn't play, he not only creates but he's an inevitable out ball for Barkley.

He's an attacking midfielder, he's not meant to be running around snapping people.
He needs to do more defensively, but how much does Mata/Silva do on defence? Not a lot.
Mata excluded. People forget how much work some of these top attaking players go through, they don't just stand about waiting for the ball
